Do not buy a Huawei phone on the assumption that “Android” means it includes Google Play and Google Mobile Services (GMS). Support depends on the exact model, regional variant and software. Older Google-certified Huawei models and newer Huawei platforms should be checked separately.

What happened to the old model list?

This article previously highlighted the Huawei P30 Pro New Edition and P Smart 2020 as recent options with Google apps. They are historical 2020 models, not current-generation recommendations. A used unit also needs checks for battery condition, security support, authentic firmware and the seller’s warranty.

Do not treat the last models in an old article as proof that a similarly named new model has GMS. Ask for the exact model number and regional specification.

Verify official support before purchase

  1. Ask the local manufacturer or seller whether Google Play and GMS are officially included on that exact variant.
  2. If Play Store is present, check Settings → About → Play Protect certification.
  3. Compare against Google’s certification guidance; merely installing Play Store does not establish certification.
  4. Verify your essential banking, work, navigation and messaging apps with their publishers.

AppGallery and alternative access

Huawei AppGallery is Huawei’s app-distribution platform. Availability of an app there does not automatically reproduce the features of its Google Play version. Web versions can cover some tasks, but not every notification, sign-in or payment integration.

Third-party containers and installation workarounds are not equivalent to official GMS licensing. Compatibility and account handling can change. HarmonyOS variants also require platform-specific checks; do not assume an Android APK runs on every Huawei operating system.
