The visual experience of our mobile depends a lot on the display technology. Having one type of panel and another, can mean the difference between having a better display in multimedia content, or more or less energy efficiency that will translate into greater autonomy. Let’s take a look at the ways to find out the display technology that our mobile has.
Counting one type of panel and another, also usually reveals the price range of our device. In this way, the large flagships on the market wear OLED panels, more efficient and expensive to manufacture. However, and before we can know what type of screen our mobile has, we will take a look at the types of screen technologies that we can find.
Display Technologies
OLED screens
As we say, they are present in the vast majority of high-end devices. The origin of its light source is diodes, small devices that generate light, and that give color to each of the pixels. It is an ideal technology to achieve pure black tones, since it turns off pixels that do not need to be in use, also saving a lot of energy.
AMOLED
This technology illuminates each pixel only when it is electronically activated. Its technology is “active-matrix organic light-emitting diod”. Its manufacturing is based on OLED technology , but it fails to show the pure black tones of OLED panels.
P-OLED
This technology achieves thinner and more moldable panels. It is a technology inherited from traditional OLED panels.
LCD screens
It is the one that we find in most mobiles, since they are the cheapest to manufacture. In this case we talk about a liquid crystal and we find two types of LCD screens: IPS and TFT, based on the same technology. Pixels modify a light source that reaches them to show different colors. They are less bright panels and sometimes offer too muted tones, they are also less efficient.
Know the type of screen
Trick with black image
This old trick aims to check how our screen behaves, to determine the type of technology. For this we will have to get a totally black image, and open it in the gallery of our mobile. Then we will raise the brightness to the maximum and check what happens. If it emits light, we can say that we are facing an LCD panel , but if, on the contrary, even with the maximum brightness the screen remains black, our technology will be that of an OLED or AMOLED panel.
On our site
On our site we have complete technical sheets for each mobile that comes onto the market. In them you will find a large section dedicated to the screen, where you can check the screen technology of your mobile. You just have to type in Google the model of your mobile followed by “our site” and you will access the file with all the information.
With an app
It is a fast and reliable method, since there are applications that detect our device and report complete information about all its hardware . One of the best known is “Phone Information”, where it has a section that will tell us the technology of our screen.
Manufacturer website
It is perhaps the most reliable option of all, as the manufacturer offers detailed information on each model on the official website. We can always find information about the screen technology that our mobile has.
Mobile case
Manufacturers display all the technical specifications of the device in its box. In many occasions, the information related to the screen may come from the front, but in many others, we will have to look at the back or on the side to know for sure the screen technology.
