How to Know if a Charger Is Fast Charging and What Power It Has

Every time we have more chargers at home, which we can use to recharge our mobile, but not all of them offer us the fast charging technology that our mobile supports. In order to recognize the chargers that are designed to take advantage of the fast charging of our mobile, we have to put the charger in the spotlight.

It is not something easy to understand, although we will try to explain it so that anyone can look at the chargers they have at home and know if they are going to offer them a slow or fast charge. First we will have to check the technical sheet on our site of our smartphone, in order to know exactly what fast charge the terminal supports.

Identify a fast-charge charger

There is no single method with which to recognize a charger with fast charge, we have at our disposal a series of options that give us this information. Any of these methods is just as valid, we just have to decide on the one that is easiest for us.

Recognize it by the inscriptions

The first option we have to find out if a charger enjoys fast charging is to look at its design. In all cases, chargers with some type of fast charge specified it in their design, either with a name based on the types of fast charge in mobile phones or with some standard technology such as Quick Charge.

This is not being said without complications that we find a charger that offers a higher voltage than usual and with it we could get our mobile to charge earlier. However, this does not offer us to know another important point such as power, something that we will see later as we can calculate it.

Voltage holds the key

In the event that it does not carry any registration beyond that of the mandatory specifications, we will have to look at the section where it says OUTPUT. In case the numbers that appear are 5V: 2A, we are facing a charger that does not enjoy fast charging and is standard, therefore the mobile will charge at the minimum power.

But if it is also accompanied by other power options such as 9V: 2A or for example 10V: 4A, it does enjoy a superior fast charge. This is the most relevant information on the charger and which we should always take into account when lending us a charger or not using the one that comes standard with the mobile phone.

What power can the charger reach?

When mobile phones are presented or even when we are going to buy them, we find that manufacturers speak of charging power, which is represented in charging watts . However, when we look at the charger, we do not see this data anywhere and that can make us somewhat confused with what the charger is telling us.

To find out, we only need to make a simple mathematical formula, in which we are going to multiply volts by amps and we will have as a result the power that a charger offers us. This will help us to know if it is going to offer us the maximum power that the mobile supports. For example, it would be as follows:

  • 5V: 2A = 5 × 2 = 10W
  • 9V: 2A = 9 × 2 = 18W
  • 10V: 4A = 10 × 4 = 40W

Not all fast charging chargers are valid for your mobile

However, that a mobile has a higher charging power and according to our smartphone, does not assure us that it will work. Some specific brands and models have identification systems that only allow you to take full advantage of fast charging in devices where they have been tested . For example, we will not be able to use the fast charge of a Huawei mobile on a Realme mobile as they were not developed by the same manufacturer and could put the smartphone at risk.
