The 2020 versions of Windows 10 are not particularly characterized by having arrived stable and error-free. Not even version 20H2, the October 2020 Update, has been able to solve the numerous problems that have affected the general functioning of the operating system. Fortunately, each month Microsoft addresses and fixes some of the problems that hurt users the most. And the new optional patch, KB4586853, seems to get Windows 10 versions 2004 and 20H2 ready for a good end of the year.
Just a few hours ago Microsoft released a new optional patch for all users of the 2020 versions of its operating system. This new update is mainly focused on fixing bugs and bugs not related to operating system security . In addition, as it is an optional patch, it will not be downloaded automatically, but we will have to download and install it by hand in order to apply the appropriate corrections.
Bugs fixed with Windows 10 patch KB4586853
The number of bugs and bugs fixed by this patch is quite large. However, there are two that are very important and that were becoming very annoying for many users. The first of these was a bug that prevented data and apps from being maintained when performing a full operating system update from the media creation tool. The only option that appeared to us when using this tool was to “keep nothing”, or what is the same, perform a new clean installation of the operating system. After installing the KB4586853 patch, this has finally been fixed.
Another major bug fixed with this new cumulative update is one that was generating random blue screens when using NVMe SSDs on a high-end PC. This was especially the case when using NVMe drives connected via Thunderbolt. Affected users encountered a critical error “DRIVER_VERIFIER_DMA_VIOLATION (e6). An illegal DMA operation was attempted by a driver being verified.” that prevented them from using the operating system.
Other relevant corrections and improvements that we find are:
- Stability and performance improvements in the Narrator tool.
- Windows 10 can now locate Xbox consoles connected to the same network again.
- We have solved errors in the Game Bar.
- The USB 3.0 ports are working properly again.
- Improvements and corrections both in the Mail app and in Mixed Reality.
- Recent files menu improvements for taskbar items.
A series of errors that could cause the screen of our PC to go black or appear generic errors in the system have also been solved.
Download and install the optional update
Being an optional quality update, not related to security, we will have to install it ourselves. To do this, what we must do is open the Windows Settings menu and go to the Windows Update section . Here we can find this new optional patch to download and install it in our Windows 10.

After installing this new patch, our Windows 10 will be placed on build 19042.662 .
Although KB4586853 is an optional update, all its fixes will reach all users next week along with the Windows 10 security patches . We also remember that after the next security patches, Windows 10 will no longer receive any more updates until the second week of January. Microsoft wants to take the opportunity to rest (and give us a break) on these dates.
