What to Do if iTunes Doesn’t Recognize iPhone: Error 0xE

Although we do not want to, there are many operations that we have to do on our iPhone through a computer. Restoring it from the factory for example is something that we cannot do easily without a PC or Mac, and there can always be problems. More basic solutions to the error ‘0xE’

Sometimes when we have this problem, the solution can be the dumbest thing. That is why you have to propose the following list of checks to solve the 0xE error or unknown error:

  1. Check that the iPhone is unlocked .
  2. Check that you have the latest version of the software available, both on the iPhone and iTunes.
  3. Make sure you have tapped ‘Trust’ when the iPhone has shown the dialog box asking ‘Trust this computer?’
  4. Test all the USB ports of your computer by disconnecting the rest of accessories.
  5. Try a different USB cable .
  6. Restart the computer and iPhone.
  7. Try connecting your iPhone to a different computer.

DFU mode

If none of this works you can ‘force’ the mobile device to be recognized by the Mac or PC by entering the iPhone in recovery mode or DFU . The way to do it will vary depending on the iPhone model we have:

  • iPhone 8 or higher: press and release the volume up button, then decrease volume, and finally we will keep the side button pressed.
  • iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus: Press and hold the side buttons and the volume down button.
  • iPhone 6s or earlier: Press and hold the Home button and the Side button at the same time.

Solve problems on Mac

If the problem occurs when we connect our iPhone to the Mac, we will have to check in the different hardware options if it is detected or not. Sometimes there is a problem that iTunes does not recognize our iPhone but USB does. This makes us see that we are facing a problem in iTunes or macOS, so make sure that we have the latest version of the software installed. To carry out this check, follow these steps:

  1. Connect your iPhone to Mac.
  2. Enter the system information by pressing the Option key and clicking on the ‘Apple’ menu in the upper left corner.
  3. In the left list look for the ‘USB’ section.
  4. Search the device tree for the word ‘iPhone’ to find out if the port is detecting the mobile device.

As we have previously mentioned, if ‘iPhone’ comes out, you have to update the software, otherwise you will have to call Apple‘s technical service.

Solve problems in Windows

In the event that we are connecting the iPhone to a Windows computer and it does not recognize us, we can update the driver of the USB connector. To do so, simply follow the steps below:

  1. Connect your iPhone to PC.
  2. Close iTunes if it opens.
  3. Go to the start button and click on it with the secondary button.
  4. Select the ‘Device Manager’ section .
  5. Look for the ‘Portable Devices’ section.
  6. Expand it and if the name of your iPhone appears, right-click to ‘Update driver’.

Once this is done we can enter Windows Update to check if there is any update to install. After installing it, iTunes may already recognize your iPhone.

If this has not finished working, you can go back to the device manager, and expand the ‘Universal Serial Bus Drivers’ section. Once here you should get ‘Apple Mobile Device USB Driver’, otherwise you must contact Apple support. If you get an exclamation point you can restart it.

If you downloaded iTunes through Apple

In the event that you have not made the download from the Microsoft Store and if through the official Apple website you can follow the following steps to install the driver:

  1. Press Windows + R keys.
  2. In the run window enter % ProgramFiles% Common FilesAppleMobile Device SupportDrivers
  3. Install the files’ usbaapl64.inf and usbappl.inf by right-clicking and clicking ‘Install’.

Once you have done this you can disconnect the iPhone and connect it again to enter iTunes. In theory, the iPhone could already detect you if everything went well enough. If none of this works you will have to resort to Apple support.
