Knowing the measurements that an iPad has is essential on many occasions. If you have not bought the tablet yet, it will help you to get an idea of how it will be handled, but if you have it, it is already interesting to know what accessories can be used depending on its size. In this article you will see the details of the dimensions of each of the iPad, from the “normal” to the ‘Pro’, through the ‘mini’ and ‘Air’.
Sizes of all Apple iPads
In 2010 the first iPad was launched, which was called as is without any nickname. Over the years their successors were released and their generation’s name was officially added at the end to differentiate them. Then came other different ranges that also differ from each other by the type of generation to which they belong within their own category.

iPad Air
Up to four generations of iPad Air we have had so far. This intermediate tablet from Apple moves on horseback between those who need a little more power than the normal iPad, but less than in the ‘Pro’. In fact, at the level of design and specifications like these, it is a mixture between the two and has been inheriting all of this from the ‘Pro’ models, although always with some difference for which it is convenient to know exactly what characteristics each one has.

iPad Pro
Some more confusion we find with the iPad Pro, since in these cases they are divided in a different way. Early on, Apple launched a single model in this range with a single screen size. Later it was launching other versions with other sizes and finally it has reached a dynamic in which it always launches two sizes every year, but with differences in dimensions. Therefore, the way to divide these iPad Pro is different from what we find in any other range, since they are the only ones to offer these differences in size in a single generation that, in turn, is different.

Curiosities about the dimensions of the iPad
With 27 different iPad models we can find a multitude of curiosities and records. Based on what has been seen in the previous tables, we can draw some conclusions about these tablets that, beyond being curious, can be useful if you are a lover of this type of device.
What is the tallest iPad?
The first two generations of the 12.9-inch iPad Pro hold the record for being Apple’s tallest tablets at 12.9 inches. This was reduced when Apple changed the design and reduced the edges, but for history these two tablets will already remain for those dimensions that will also be worth other records that we will comment on later.
The lowest iPad of all
With 20 centimeters, any generation of iPad mini serves to hold this record that is not exactly negative. If we accompany you with the rest of the dimensions, it makes this range of tablets the most manageable and comfortable to transport, either in any room in the house or outside it.
The widest iPad
Again we find the first two 12.9 ″ iPad Pro with their 22.06 centimeters wide, grabbing this record. At the time they were very powerful and advanced tablets, but this meant having to handle an iPad that for many was tremendously uncomfortable. In its favor we find spectacular screens to work with total comfort.
The record for the smallest width iPad
The iPad mini 1, 2 and 3 have a width of 13.47 centimeters which places them on the opposite side of the 12.9 iPad Pro. In later generations they increased their size by 1 centimeter, something almost negligible but that helps them not to take the record in this section.
Is this the thickest iPad?
You must have guessed before reading this. Yes, the first two generations of the 12.9 iPad Pro also take the cake at this at 0.69 centimeters thick. This was decreasing in the following generations, although in its fifth version it was enlarged again until it reached 0.64 centimeters, which continues to be below the first.
Apple’s thinnest tablet
You will think that this point was preferable and no, it is not. We found several iPads of different ranges and generations holding the record of being the thinnest with a thickness of 0.61 centimeters:
- iPad mini (4th and 5th generation)
- iPad Pro (9.7 ″)
- iPad Pro (10.5 ″)
- iPad Air (2nd, 3rd and 4th generation)
To date, it is the heaviest iPad
If there were heavyweight awards on Apple tablets, it is very likely that the original iPad would win. The first version launched by Apple in 2010 is surprisingly the heaviest with 730 grams in its 3G version and it is curious because in dimensions it is smaller than many others launched later.
This iPad is the lightest
Continuing with the joke of the awards, in the featherweights we would find the iPad mini 4 in its WiFi version. At 298.8 grams this is the lightest tablet Apple has made to date. Undoubtedly a joy to use it even with one hand if we combine it with the rest of the dimensions it brings.
