Right now, everything related to Microsoft revolves around the same concept: Windows 10X . This is Microsoft’s new operating system, a system with low resource consumption, focused on the use of universal applications and designed to run, above all, on convertibles and tablets. Initially it was going to be focused on the new dual-screen Surface tablets, although it will finally arrive ahead of time for devices with a single screen. Even unofficially, we will be able to install this system on any PC.
Contrary to what happens with a normal Windows 10, 10X does not come with an installer . Microsoft has no intention of allowing users to install this operating system on their own, but it can only be installed as standard, OEM, on certain devices. But people weren’t going to settle for that.
Last week we told you that a preview image of the supposed Windows 10X RTM had appeared on the network. And a developer, ADeltaXForce , had shared a guide explaining how to compile and install it on any PC. Of course, it is not a precisely short or simple process, which already makes many users not dare to do it.
But it was a matter of time before someone created a tool that would facilitate this whole process and put this new operating system within the reach of anyone who knows how to make a couple of mouse clicks. And this is how this new tool has appeared: Windows 10X Device Image Generator.
Device Image Generator – Create a Windows 10X Image with a Couple of Clicks
This new program, which we can find on XDA , simplifies the task of creating a new Windows 10X image and installing it on our computer. The purpose of this tool is to allow the creation of a fully functional 10X Full Flash Update (FFU) package on x86 architectures without the need to use CMD commands for that purpose.
The first thing that this program offers us is the possibility of exporting all the drivers of our computer. Thanks to this we can import them into the FFU image and avoid all kinds of problems of the style, for example, with the audio or with the Wi-Fi .
This wizard will also automatically create all the necessary configuration files to create the system installation package for our PC. We can indicate the path of the drivers, and choose where to save this file with all the necessary instructions so that Windows 10X can work on our PC. As we can see, we do not need to execute a single command.
Finally, we only have to find and download the Windows 10X files (which for legal reasons are not included with the tool, but are easy to find), choose the directory of these files, the directory of the previous configuration file and the path where we want to save the image and that’s it.
The program will take care of the rest. We can only wait for the program to end. And when it’s done, we extract the generated .7z file and run DevImgGen.exe.
Caution: the process will erase the hard drive
Due to the limitations in the installation of Windows 10X, Microsoft will not give us to choose on which disk or partition we want to install this operating system. By default, the wizard will completely erase the entire hard drive and create its own partitions to install. This means that we will lose all the data that we have saved in the computer.
Having included the drivers for our PC, most of the peripherals will work without problems. And if someone does not do it, we can do little more. Maybe when the final version of Windows 10X arrives, or an update of this Device Image Generator, things will change. But we must not forget that we are doing a “napa” to be able to install this OS on the PC. We should be thankful that it works.
