At WWDC 2020 the new operating systems were presented and, as every year, that of Apple TV was relegated to the background in terms of expectation and news. There are really very few new features on tvOS 14, although there are a few other highlights that could perhaps make your beta installation worthwhile. In this post we tell you what the main novelty is, what risks it has to install the beta and how it works, as well as how to install it.
The main novelty of tvOS 14
The time spent on tvOS during the last Apple keynote was also spent on presenting new Apple TV + content. New features were also highlighted in terms of compatibility with home automation accessories integrated into the Home / House interface. However, the most outstanding novelty and that many users can already push to try the beta is the possibility of using two pairs of headphones at the same time with Apple TV, although it has certain limitations.

This tvOS 14 is compatible with Apple TV HD and Apple TV 4K, however it is only in the latter that this functionality of the headphones is available. The reason for this is that it has Bluetooth 5.0 technology that its predecessor does not have, so for the moment and in the absence of new devices, it will be the only one that has this possibility. The way to configure this pair of headphones is simple, going to Settings> Controls and devices> Bluetooth and connecting both devices.
Risks of the tvOS 14 beta
Like any beta version, that of tvOS 14 could generate some instability that would lead to certain bugs such as unexpected restarts, apps or actions that do not work correctly and a long etcetera of errors that in a version of this type can be considered normal. The truth is that the final versions come very debugged and do not usually have this type of failure, but we cannot expect the same from the first test versions.
In this newsroom we have been able to install the betas on an Apple TV 4K and the truth is that it performs very well . There have been hardly any bugs, beyond a sporadic case in which the volume up and down buttons with headphones through the Siri Remote have not responded. However it was fixed with a reboot of the device. Therefore, we can say that the beta of tvOS 14 works very well , although it must be borne in mind that every type of failure could occur in each device and therefore we cannot recommend it to those who use this device daily and do not want to risk it.
Install tvOS 14 beta
If you have definitely decided to try the tvOS 14 beta, you can access the installation in various ways, although we recommend doing so by following these steps:

- On Apple TV go to Settings.
- Go to the General section .
- Now go to Privacy.
- Hover over “Share Apple TV Review” without pressing.
- Press the Play / Pause button on the Siri Remote.
- Above “Add profile” press the Play / Pause button again.
- Now a text field appears in which you must write (without quotes) ” https://bit.ly/tvos14 ″ .
- Click Done and then Install.
It is possible that at some point you will be asked to restart Apple TV, do it and then go to Settings> System> Software updates> Software update and install the corresponding tvOS 14 beta. This is another way to install a beta on Apple TV away from the public, but totally safe.
