After a public preview that has taken a little longer than expected, users can start installing the operating system on their phones. In the past, the first models to be able to be updated would be the company’s Google Pixel but in the case of Android 11, there are a good number of smartphones from other brands that can download and install the latest version of Android right now.

Today there is a select number of Pixel, Xiaomi, OPPO, realme and OnePlus devices that will see the update implemented on their phones appear in the coming days. These are the chosen models:

  • Google phones : Google Pixel 2, Google Pixel 3, Google Pixel 3a and Google Pixel 4
  • Xiaomi phones: Xiaomi Mi 10, Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro and Poco F2 Pro
  • OPPO phones: OPPO Find X2, OPPO Find X2 Pro, OPPO Reno3 4G and OPPO Reno3 Pro 4G
  • Realme Phones: Realme X50 Pro
  • OnePlus phones: OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro

From now on, all these models should receive a notice via OTA that the operating system update for mobiles is available. Updating that phone is as simple as downloading the update package and installing it on the mobile, first making a backup copy to prevent possible headaches.

If you have not received the notification yet, you can always open the settings panel of your mobile, select System Update and click on “Check for updates”.

What news does it bring?

Nor is it that the final version of Android 11 brings many new features compared to what we have seen in the beta versions of the Google operating system. We have enhancements that are primarily focused on messaging, privacy, and that give us better control over all of our smart devices.

For example, notifications from messaging apps now have a dedicated space at the top of the notification bar and have a “more people-oriented design”, as the company describes it. The new Bubbles API now also makes chat bubbles a fundamental part of the Android messaging experience.

An additional feature that Google lists in the communications section is screen recording, which is now finally a built-in tool that allows you to record what is happening on the phone, using sound from your microphone, the device, or both.

As for the control of smart devices, Google now adds functions by pressing and holding the power button that gives access to a new menu similar to what you can currently find in the Google Home application, but with a different design. This also “syncs” with Google Pay, making it easy to access credit cards or travel tickets.
