When it comes to handling multimedia content, there are many programs that we can use right now. We can mention some of the best known as it happens with VLC , Kodi or Media Player Classic. But also recently they have been joined by a proposal that does not stop gaining in popularity and users, Stremio.
When we refer to the aforementioned multimedia content, we are actually talking about audio, video or photo files. Of course, there are programs that focus on the use of one of these types in particular, while others have support for all of them. Serve as a clear example of the latter case, the popular Kodi software . This is a proposal that has been with us for many years, not in vain in the past it was known as XBMC . As we told you, Stremio focuses on providing us with direct access to video content, movies and series, from our streaming platforms. But let’s not ask for more, that is, to be able to use other file formats from this same interface . With this, what we want to tell you is that, contrary to what happens in Kodi, here we will not be able to add a library of music, or photos, or radio stations.
That is why it could be said that Stremio is much more limited when it comes to the multiple management of multimedia content.
A more individual and special interface for the multimedia world
One of the characteristics that defines Kodi from the outset is its user interface. It takes us into a complete multimedia center that seems to work completely independent of the system where we install it. In fact we can turn off the entire equipment from it, see the time of the zone, surf the Internet , play, etc.
However, those who are used to all this, Stremio may seem like a software more similar to the many in this sector.
Better local file management in Stremio
Although this new software for streaming videos has an option to be able to play local files, it has nothing to do with all the power of Kodi in this regard. In fact, to give us an idea, in Stemio the access to the contents of our disk drives does not even come activated, it is something that we have to do by hand.
Therefore, if this is one of our main objectives, the videos on our hard drives , it is best if we opt for another option of this type.
Support for other platforms and teams in Stremio
As we mentioned about the personal user interface of Kodi, another of the secrets of its success is the enormous number of operating systems and devices that it supports. We can use them on PCs, laptops, mobiles , consoles, on a Raspberry Pi , etc. In addition, it almost does not matter what operating system we use in these products. On the other hand, Stremio, being a much more modern software, still has a long way to go in this regard.
