I have shielded my Internet connection with these new European DNS

A new free public project aims to make Internet browsing safer through a new domain name system that goes straight to the best DNS list.

Its name is dns0 and it arises after having worked for more than 3 years serving hundreds of thousands of users as NextDNS. Now they go a step further and intend to confirm themselves as one of the best elections within the borders of the European Union.

I have shielded my Internet connection with these new European DNS

This is the new secure DNS

The French non-profit organization dns0 has launched a European public DNS service which, according to its founders, should protect the citizens and organizations of the European Union. Dns0 is defined as “Free and GDPR compliant DNS with a strong focus on security to protect citizens and organizations in the European Union” .

In addition, dns0 offers a “kid-friendly” internet without ads, pornography, dating, pira-cy, and adult YouTube videos. Dns0 has been created by Romain Cointepas and Olivier Poitrey, co-founders of DNS provider NextDNS.

This project should not be confused with DNS4EU, an official project of the European Union that will seek massive adoption in the administration, companies, education and private users. It will guarantee high availability with low latency from any point in the European territory, having a presence in all relevant traffic exchange points.

As described by the EU, “DNS4EU will offer a high level of resiliency, global and EU-specific cybersecurity protection. It will also be committed to data protection and privacy in accordance with EU rules, and will ensure that DNS resolution data is processed in Europe and that personal data is not monetized. You will adhere to the latest Internet security and privacy standards. It will be widely discoverable and easy to configure by end users on their hardware and software.”

How to change your DNS for these

Whatever the method to change your DNS, you should know that those of dns0 are 193.110.81.9 and 185.253.5.9 . In the event that you want the ones with parental control, they correspond to 193.110.81.1 and 185.253.5.1.

Changing the DNS on the router will depend on the model you have, the operator or manufacturer you have. But what we have to do in all of them is to access the device and most of them are accessible from the browser by typing 192.168.1.1 to access the settings. When we are inside and have accessed with a username and password, they all offer us the possibility of going to “advanced settings” and looking for how to change DNS.

As a general rule, the steps to follow to change your DNS from the router would be the following:

  • We open the browser that we use
  • We write the IP address (usually it is 192.168.1.1)
  • We access the access screen
  • We write our email or username and our password (if you have not previously changed it, it will be by default “admin” and “admin”)
  • Let’s go to the “Advanced settings” section at the top
  • We touch on the ” Internet ” tab
