The Huawei P40 Lite has been the latest launch of the Chinese company. We have been strongly attracted to the attention that comes at a substantially lower price than last year’s P30 Lite, improving all its features. Opposite has rivals such as the Realme 5 Pro, with which we wanted to make a comparison to see their differences and advantages of one over another.
Huawei, like the rest of giants like Samsung, LG, or Sony have several new “Chinese” in shoes called Xiaomi, Realme or alive. The fight becomes more fierce in the mid-range, where the options are many, varied and at break prices. The Huawei P40 Lite and the Realme 5 Pro are two examples of this.
Screen and dimensions
We are facing two terminals with a similar screen size. The Huawei P40 Lite reaches 6.4 inches , while the Realme 5 Pro reaches 6.3. Both have FullHD + resolution and the same aspect ratio, but the pixel density per inch is slightly higher in the realm with 409 dpi compared to the 398 dpi of the P40 Lite.
As for the dimensions and size we are almost facing two clones. The P40 Lite is 8.7 millimeters thick and weighs 183 grams, compared to 8.9 millimeters and 184 grams of the Realme 5 Pro. In the panels of the two teams we notice a notable difference, and that is that the P40 Lite has its front camera housed in a hole in the screen, while the realme 5 Pro shows a classic drop-shaped notch.
Kirin vs Snapdragon
There are also notable differences under the hood. Huawei is committed to its Kirin 810 , while it really does the same with a Snapdragon 712. We are facing two mid-range processors, but the Kirin is manufactured in 7 nm compared to 10 nm in Qualcomm. This should be a plus as far as energy efficiency is concerned. The Huawei P40 Lite comes in a single version with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory, compared to the 4 or 8 GB of RAM of the Realme 5 Pro and its 128 GB of storage. Both terminals can expand this capacity through expansion cards.
Technical draw on cameras
As for the section of the cameras, we find two configurations of four rear sensors in the two devices. The funny thing and that does not usually occur in our comparisons, is that the two terminals have the same types of sensors and capacity. Leading with a 48 megapixel main sensor, 8 megapixel wide angle sensor, 2 megapixel macro and depth sensors. In addition and to finish off the tie, the two have a 16 megapixel front camera.
Connections and battery
We see that the two devices have similar connections, including Bluetooth 5 or USB-TypeC. However, the Huawei P40 Lite has more battery, reaching 4,200 mAh with 40W fast charge, compared to 4,035 mAh and 20W fast charging of the realme 5 Pro. We also see that the P40 Lite will be released with EMUI 10 and Android 10 (although without Google services) while the realme 5 Pro features ColorOS 6 based on Android 9 Pie, and is still waiting to receive Android 10.
The determining price
The Huawei P40 Lite goes on sale for 299 euros, in its only available version of 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. The Realme 5 Pro can be found for 181 euros in its version of 4 GB of RAM, or about 225 euros for its variant of 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory. Only this latest version unbalances the balance in favor of Realme, which still has the best price. Technically we have seen several technical draws, although the P40 Lite looks better processor, battery and the latest Android version.
