After the many extensions of the United States and the difficulties that have been presented to Huawei, the decision and the path of Harmony OS is marked towards its own operating system. At the Harmony OS 2.0 presentation we learned that the first beta will be real this year and that 2021 will let us see a final version of this new system together with EMUI 11.
But nevertheless things do not stop here and the Chinese firm wants Harmony OS not to be an operating system dedicated only to its brand , thus opening up the possibilities for other companies. This new Huawei operating system is open source like Android and has in mind to become a competitor to the great android. This has led him to raise the possibilities of change in the operating system such as Xiaomi and OPPO.
The third operating system after Android and after iOS
As explained by Zhang Ping An, president of Huawei services, the intention is to make it possible for Harmony OS to reach other mobile phones and devices from brands other than its own. With this, they mark on the horizon the goal of being able to compete with the two great mobile operating systems, which are Android and the iPhone iOS. This task seems complicated and very difficult to achieve without a big change, at which point the rest of the Chinese brands enter the scene.
Huawei itself has already managed to get many developers to adapt their applications for Harmony OS , facilitating the tools and the process until it is practically the same as in Android. This has allowed the App Gallery to have many applications in a few months, but the limitations are still wide in European countries.
What could it do to other brands to use Harmony OS?
Although it may seem like a somewhat risky idea, there are reasons to think about a possible alliance between Xiaomi, OPPO and Huawei . This would occur in the event that Donald Trump imposes limitations on other brands in the United States, the reason that led Huawei to take a path that previously seemed unlikely. However, as long as this does not happen it seems a long way off.
Xiaomi and the rest of the brands in China have great support in Android, having earned the trust of users and being more and more empathetic to offer faster updates and better services. The jump from one operating system to another would shake the foundations of companies, putting evolution at risk.
