Video calls had their moment of glory when the possibility was integrated into the first 3G mobiles and those operators that allowed us to make them. For a time they fell into oblivion and no one could even imagine that they would return with great force, due to the confinement of this 2020. With the novelties of EMUI 10.1, Huawei presented MeeTime , its own solution for making video calls.
The tool is a kind of answer to Apple‘s FaceTime and of course, one more tool from Huawei so that its users forget Google apps like Google Duo or even third-party developments like Zoom. MeeTime was released with the Huawei P40 thanks to EMUI 10.1 , although its integration is ensured for all terminals that are updated to this latest version.
The MeeTime restriction
The downside is that MeeTime is currently in the testing phase, enabled by default in countries such as China, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, Singapore, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia and South Africa. But luckily there is a trick to be able to activate and enjoy MeeTime in Spanish Huawei with EMUI 10.1. The application allows video calls in FullHD quality , they take advantage of both data and Wi-Fi. However, Huawei takes advantage of the power of GPU Turbo to boost and maintain quality even if the connection quality falters. In addition, MeeTime also makes use of the AI of the cameras to show more clarity in adverse light situations.
How active
In order to enable this video-calling tool, you will have to change the mobile region to China , so that MeeTime appears directly in the calling application. Then we can enable it and return the region we had previously. The first thing we will have to do is go to the following route on our mobile
Settings / System and Updates / Language and text input / Language and region
Once inside “Region” we will have to search for China and click on accept, so that the mobile interprets that we are in the country of the Great Wall. Once done we will have to enter the Phone app and in the upper right corner we will see the MeeTime icon. We touch to access and once inside we give it to “enable”. Once done, we can make video calls using this method . Once done, we must retrace our steps, going again to the Language and Region option to leave China and return to the correct region. The mobile will detect which of our contacts also have MeeTime and will show them in a specific window. However, we can also add other contacts that are not in the phonebook, as long as we have their phone number and they also have the function enabled.
