Amazon has a range of Amazon devices that allow us to make any television smart or access applications and games and even control playback using our voice through Alexa. Now we can access the LIVE section on Fire TV that allows us to watch programs from traditional channels without leaving the Alexa app. We can watch television on demand.

Live on Fire TV
The Live section of Amazon Fire TV allows us to watch television channels without leaving the Amazon platform. Until a few months ago, we could open Amazon but by doing so we disconnected from DTT. That is, we could access all streaming platform… Or we could listen to music. But we could not see, for example, a series or a program on Antena 3. In this case with the Live section we can already access from all Fire TV devices in Spain to see general channels or channels such as Neox, Nova, etc.
At the moment we can download some channel applications but they are not all. We can download the RTVE and Atresplayer app and this will allow us to see:
- The 1
- The 2
- 24 hours
- Teledeporte
- Antenna 3
- The sixth
- Atresseries
- Neox
- Not going
- Mega
But for example we will miss channels like Cuatro, like Telecinco or all the specific ones that we can see on Mitele . At least for now. It may be that in the future the application will be added among the compatible ones and we can also access them.
Advantages and disadvantages
The main advantage is that we do not have to change applications in order to access traditional channels. Until now, we had to leave the Alexa section to go see the news, for example. But it is enough to go to the Live section within the app itself. Another of the main advantages is that if you have an Amazon Fire TV Cube you can already control the television completely with your voice without using your hands. Until now, to change to La 1, Telecinco or La 2 we had to resort to the remote, exit Alexa and use the television remote. Now everything is unified in a single command or voice. Now you can say “Alexa, put Four” or “Alexa, put Nova” and it will automatically do it and play whatever there is.
But not all are advantages and the main disadvantage is that we do not watch television through DTT but through the live applications of the networks themselves. This means that it can go a little slower if we have a bad connection , that the quality is somewhat lower and that we have to download the apps to be able to see it, which will take up space on the device. Another drawback is that not all channels are available and they are limited to those mentioned in the previous section. There are many specific or autonomous channels that will be left out of the player.
Setting
If you already have a Fire TV and you have not seen this section yet, you should update first. Therefore, you must follow the following steps:
- Access Amazon Fire TV
- Open the settings menu
- Find ABOUT in the device settings menu
- Check for available system updates
- Refresh and wait a few seconds for it to complete
Once you have the update, the “Live” section should appear at the top. When accessing it, keep in mind that the first thing Amazon will offer you is to install the different applications on demand to be able to access the channels. You can install ATRESPlayer or RTVE à la carte, for example. They are free and once they are in, all the available channels will appear to you to navigate from one to another or to see the live programming or what is next.
Use Live on Fire TV
Once you have everything installed in Amazon we will only have to use the remote to go to the “Live” section at the top of the screen, as we can see in the following photo. Here we will see the programs or series that are being broadcast at that moment in the configured channels and we can choose the one we want to start watching it. There are several options: We can see the channels in order or access the TV Guide within Amazon Fire TV.
But keep in mind that here the channels will not be sorted in alphabetical order but by application packs. That is to say, first all the RTVE channels will appear and as you scroll down the guide you can find all the Atresplayer channels.
In case we don’t like a channel, we can hide it. Imagine you don’t like the soap operas that are always on Nova. In that case, you can go to “Manage Channels”, choose the channel you want and tap the forward button on the remote to hide the channel from the list or guide.
Another option that channels allow us to mark some of them as favorites to always have them at hand. At present we only have about ten channels available so it is not difficult to “get lost” among them. But in the case of adding more channels, it is convenient that we always have the ones we use the most at hand. In “Live” scroll until you find the options and choose “Favorites”. Here you can mark the channels that you use the most and that you always want to have in view.
