  • Press and hold the lock button . This is the one found on the right side of the iPhone 6 onwards and on the upper right side of the iPhone 5s and earlier (including the 1st generation iPhone SE).
  • Drag the slider button .
  • Wait 15-30 seconds.

How to turn off an iPhone X or later

If you have an iPhone X, XS, XS Max, XR, 11, 11 Pro or 11 Pro Max you should know that the lock button is used to invoke Siri if it is held down for several seconds. Therefore there is no possibility to turn off the phone in this way, but there is a combination of buttons that will take you to this point. The steps to follow are those:

  • Press and release the volume up button.
  • Press and release the volume down button.
  • Press the lock button.
  • Drag the slider button .
  • Wait 15-30 seconds.

There is also an alternative to this method, following the steps below:

  • Press the volume down, volume up and lock buttons together .
  • Release the buttons.
  • Drag the slider button.
  • Wait 15-30 seconds.

With this last step you must be careful and quickly release the buttons as soon as you see the screen off, since if you press and hold the buttons you will activate the iPhone’s emergency functions.

  • Press and hold the lock buttons and the Home button .

Turn off iPhone from settings
