The functionalities of our phones over time have not only been increasing, but have also been improved with the arrival of the different software updates of their respective operating systems. However, being so many, it is clear that not all users know each of them by heart. For example, not all Android or iPhone users will be aware of call transfers.
We may think that we will never need to transfer a call from one phone to another number, but it is something that you never know. So it doesn’t hurt to learn how to do it, especially for those who are on their mobile all day. And, especially, it will not hurt us if we work from home and we are glued to the smartphone. Although, as we will explain below, this feature should not be confused with the diversion of these.

Difference between transferring and forwarding calls
These two functions are often confused, and a lot, although it is normal, because they are often used synonymously by many users, such as the word ‘redirect’. However, although many are convinced that they are exactly the same, the truth is that they are two totally independent things, since their only similarity is that we can do them from our phones.
In the first place, it is that the fact of making a diversion consists in that we can send the calls that we receive to other numbers, in addition we will have these options from which to choose: Always, when it is communicating, when it does not answer, when it is turned off or without coverage .

Instead, the second option we must receive the call and then manually pass it to another person. It won’t even be necessary to have the number saved in the phonebook, as long as we know it we can transfer from one phone to another without problems.
But, as we were saying, it is normal for them to be confused in our day to day life, since they are two services that are closely related. In addition, the different operators in Spain allow you to combine both systems. Of course, it could be that, in any of the cases, we must have these functions enabled by our telephone company.
How to transfer calls on your mobile
To transfer calls on Android or iPhone , the steps could be more or less similar, depending largely on the version of Google’s operating system. Well, as we will see later, in the latest updates, smartphones with this software have lost the ‘magic’ button that made this simple action easier. However, the steps will be just as simple in both, you just have to follow each of the steps that we will explain to you in detail. In addition, we will see if there are any applications that make it even easier for us.
from Android
As we were saying, in some mobiles with the Google operating system we could find models that allowed us to execute this action as soon as we received a call, since we could find the Transfer function on the screen of this. However, as of Android 11 the steps to achieve this have changed. Although we do not see it from the call itself, we can do it by following a trick from the settings and the phone app of the smartphone.
For this reason, the process that we are going to explain to you, and that you must follow on Android, will be the following. But don’t worry, because there won’t be an added extra difficulty. Then follow these steps:
- Enter the phone app of your Android.
- Create a contact with the name you want.
- You must put the number 4 as your phone (it will be a command with which we will be able to join the two calls, in addition to hanging up immediately, so that we do not always have to be in the conversation).
- Next, we will need to have two calls in progress on an Android phone that does not have the Transfer serial option within the calls menu.
- Then, we will have to click on the back button on the navigation bar or make the gesture to go back.
- Then open the keyboard.
- Here, the trick is that we dial number 4 and when we click on call, it will be sent directly.

However, some will not have this option either, so we will have to click on Add contacts and select the one that we had previously saved as we had explained in the previous step.
From iPhone
The same trick that we saw earlier for those Android mobiles that do not have the Transfer calls function , could be useful within Apple phones:
- Enter the phone app of your Apple mobile.
- Add a new contact with the name you want.
- You will have to put the number 4 as your phone (it will be a command with which we will be able to join the two calls).
- When we are in a conversation, tap on the Add calls button .
- Then, we look for the contact to which we want to transfer it and click on it.
- When the two calls are active, we must click on the Contacts button and look for the one that we had previously saved. So we must press 4 , so that the two conversations join each other and we can disconnect without cutting it.

In the event that it does not work for you, you will only have the option to start a Teleconference call and mute your microphone and volume, while the other people speak. To do this, we will have to click again on Add calls and choose the contact.
specialized applications
Unfortunately, within the App Store the options of third-party applications that allow us to execute this action are null. So we will only have to try the previous method that we have explained to you. On the other hand, within Google Play we can find an option.
However, there is also no significant variety. Even those that are available require an annual subscription to be able to use that service. So we recommend you directly test on your phone and check if you have the Transfer calls button when you accept an incoming call or make it. And if not, you can also try the second trick, which is similar to the iPhone.
How much does it cost to transfer calls?
If you are in doubt that you will be charged a special rate for transferring calls from your smartphone, we have to tell you first of all that, in principle, you should not pay for your mobile line . In these cases, the originator of the conversation will always pay, in this case us.
So we must make sure that we do not call paid numbers, as well as the fact that our mobile plan has enough minutes so that they do not run out during the conversation that we have joined, because when the limit of our rate is exceeded, they will start to charge us all those extra minutes. So you should check if you have no limit. Otherwise, you will have to be careful, since you will not be able to check from your mobile how long those calls that you have transferred have lasted. You can only look at it from the bill you receive from your operator.
