To do this, we must know that Windows has two predefined applications that will allow us to carry out this task, such as Paint and Paint 3D . This means that it is not necessary to download or buy another application since we have the solution within the Microsoft operating system.
Paint and Paint 3D are two tools that have enough features to help us edit images. They may not have the visual appeal or impact of other more popular applications, but they can perform certain tasks solvently without having to use other third-party applications.

Windows has two image editing tools, such as Paint and Paint 3D, which, despite not being very advanced tools, can be very useful for basic tasks.
Paint, a classic in image editing
With this application we will have different options such as rotate, expand, invert colors, erase images and draw opaque. We can also edit colors, as it includes a palette of 48 and 12 custom color slots that can be edited. With it we can make drawings, edit graphics, make images, add text to these elements or to other designs.
Paint 3D, the three-dimensional evolution of Paint
Paint 3D is the evolution of the classic Windows image editing tool, which differs by allowing the editing of photos in both 2D and 3D. This is something that we can do simply and for free. It also allows us to create 2D compositions using utensils such as a marker, the calligraphy pen, the oil brush, the spray can or the eraser.
Paint 3D: change the size and resolution of a file
If we choose to use the Paint 3D tool, we are going to tell you the steps we must take to be able to change both the size and the resolution of a file.
How to resize a file
If we want to change the size of a file using Paint 3D, the first thing to do is run the program. To do this we will write “paint 3d” in the search box next to the Start menu. Once we have the application executed, we will open the image on which we want to change the size. To do this, click on the “Menu” button, which we find in the upper left.
Next, a side menu will appear where we must select the option to “Open” and “Select files”. A new window will appear with the Windows explorer that we will use to select the image and “Open” to incorporate it into the Paint 3D interface.
Once we have added it, we click on the “Menu” button in the upper left corner and select “Save as” on the next screen. Next, on the right side, within the “Save as copy” options, we must select a file format, which will be “Image”.
Subsequently, Windows Explorer should appear, where we will select the location where we want to save the file and in Type we must choose the 2D-JPEG option. Finally, we will click on “Save” to finish the process. Once finished we can compare the size of the new file with respect to the original and we will see how its size has been reduced.
How to change the resolution of an image
If what we want is to change the resolution of any image we have using Paint 3D, the procedure is very simple. We will use the search box located next to the Start menu to type “paint 3d” and open the application. Later we click on the “Menu” button, located in the upper left part of the screen and later on “File”. We choose the desired image and click on Open to add to the program interface.
Next, we click on the “Canvas” tab that we will find at the top of the screen. Pressing it will open a menu on the right side of the screen, where we can change the resolution of the image , either by percentage or by pixels. It will only be necessary that we select a height and a width. In the event that we have marked the “Lock aspect ratio” box, it will not be necessary to change the height and width separately, since the program will take care of maintaining this relationship so that the image does not lose its shape.
Once finished, we will proceed to save the file. To do this, click on the Menu tab. In the next window, click on Save as, then on “Image”. We choose the location where the file will be saved and the 2D-JPEG format . We can also press the keyboard shortcut “Ctrl + S” to save the file.
