More and more users see with amazement how many Xiaomi customers receive the expected update to MIUI 12 and they, having exactly the same mobile and without being “tied” to an operator, do not suffer the same fate. Those who are already updating their phones may know the MIUI trick to receive the new software versions on their phone sooner.
It is enough to go through the company forums to exemplify how MIUI 12 is arriving, to name a random model, to the Xiaomi Mi 10 launched last year but many mobile owners are upset to see that they are not being able to update the phone.
The weeks go by and we continue the same. Last security patch on October 1, 2020, not to mention Android 11… In the end cheap is expensive, a shame Xaomi, your hardware is very good but the software leaves much to be desired.
However, precisely, it is Xiaomi’s own software that holds the key to shorten these waits. If we configure it correctly, we will be able to receive updates to MIUI 12 , MIUI 12.5 and even MIUI 13 sooner, when the future layer of branding is presented.

“Update before” the mandatory configuration on your Xiaomi
The key is in the Xiaomi updates settings. Within the operating system updater there are options that we can modify and, among all of them, there is one that will allow us to receive MIUI updates before the rest of the users.
Even in the same thread of the Xiaomi forum, where users complain about not receiving updates, other fans of the brand encourage enabling this “secret” function.
Hello, I activated the option to receive updates before and I skipped Android 11 about a month ago and today an OTA of about 500 MB with January patch. If you want to try it is a good option.
To do this, you must open the Settings app on your mobile and scroll to the bottom until you find the “About phone” menu. Inside you must access the “System Update” options. Once inside you will see the operating system and, probably, the text that there is no update pending download. Ignore it, click on the 3 dots in the upper right corner and go to Update Settings .

Here you will find the options that will allow you to download the new software automatically, choose how to do it, install it autonomously or manually and, what is most important to us, receive the updates sooner. If you check this option, you will receive the OTA notices of the first ones every time Xiaomi launches new software for your phone.

Why does this option appear?
There really aren’t many brands that have a similar option and we can’t think of a reason why this secret MIUI feature exists. The logical thing would be for it to be enabled by default on all the brand’s mobiles but we assume that, in this way, it is less chaotic for the manufacturer’s servers to launch updates in a staggered way and not to all devices at once.
Be it for what it is, as a user, it pays you, and a lot, to keep it activated
