Visual search engine
Through the visual search engine, you can harness the power of photo analysis to identify and gather essential information about the prominent subjects in your pictures. This feature enables you to explore details about various elements such as statues, artwork, plants, pets, and more directly within the Photos app. It’s important to note that this analysis functionality is available on all iOS 16-supported iPhone versions except for the iPhone X and iPhone 8. The process of utilizing this feature involves the following steps:
- Opens a photo in full screen,
indicates that visual browser information is available for that photo. - Swipe up on the photo or tap.
- Tap the icon that appears on the photo or at the top of the photo info results to see “Siri Data” and more information about the object.

Live text
When you view a photo or pause a video within the Photos app, you’ll notice a remarkable feature called “Live Text.” This powerful tool is designed to recognize and extract text and relevant information from the images, enabling you to interact with it in various ways. You can easily select and copy the text, share it with others, translate it into different languages, or utilize quick actions like making phone calls, opening websites, or converting currency.
To activate the Live Text feature, you need to navigate to Settings > General > Language & Region on your device. From there, locate and enable the “Live Text” option. Once it’s activated, you can follow the steps below to leverage its capabilities:
- Open a photo or pause a video that contains text.
- Touch
and then hold the selected text. - Use selection points to select specific text, then do any of the following:
- Copy text: Copy text to paste into another app, like Notes or Messages.
- Select All: Select all the text in the box.
- Consult: Displays personalized web suggestions.
- Translate: Translate the text.
- Search on the Internet: Search the selected text on the Internet.
- Share: Share the text using AirDrop, Messages, Mail, or other available options.
Depending on the content of the photo, you can also tap a quick action at the bottom of the screen to do things like make a phone call, visit a website, start an email, convert currency, and more.

Once you have enabled the Live Text feature, you can take advantage of convenient quick actions that allow you to perform various tasks with just a tap. These actions, located at the bottom of the screen when viewing an image, can help you save time and accomplish specific actions swiftly. The process to utilize these quick actions is as follows:
- In the Photos app, open a photo or pause a video that contains text.
