Surely on more than one occasion you have lent your iPhone to another person and have feared that he would see a photograph or video that he should not. You should know that there is a way to hide photos on iOS so that they are not visible from the gallery. It should be noted that this possibility also exists in iPadOS, the process being identical.
Hide photos on iPhone and iPad
There are some apps in the App Store that allow you to create albums with passwords or codes, however there is a native way in iOS and iPadOS to hide photos and videos in the gallery. Files can be hidden from the Photos app itself. To do this, these photos and videos must be selected and subsequently added to the hidden album. The steps to follow for this are the following:
- Open the Photos app on the iPhone or iPad.
- Access the album ‘All photos’.
- Search and select the photo or video you want to hide.
- Press the share button. This is located in the lower left of the iPhone and in the upper right of the iPad.
- Select the ‘Hide’ option and confirm that you want to hide the photo or video.
From this moment all the multimedia content you have selected will not be shown in your main album. To access this content again you must go to the album ‘Hidden’ and perform the same process in reverse to show it again in the other galleries. You may think that this concealment is not enough, but it will make it impossible for anyone to see anything they should not if they are passing photos from the main album.
Protect photos and videos with Face ID / Touch ID and password
If what you want is to totally protect some or several photos or videos you should know that there is a native app that allows it. We refer to Notes . As you probably know, this application not only allows us to write notes with the keyboard or with the Apple Pencil but also allows us to add photographs and videos. Below we show you how to import content to a note to later protect it with a password:
- Open the Notes app .
- Open a new note and click on the ‘+’ icon that will allow you to add multimedia content.
- Choose Photo Library, select the photos and videos and videos you want to protect and click on ‘ok’.
- Save the note and exit to the main screen where, without re-entering the note, you will have to slide to the left and click on the lock icon.
- You will be required to enter a password and then you can allow this note to be unlocked with Face ID or Touch ID.
Once you have done this you can delete the inserted content from the gallery without fear of it being lost, as it will still remain in the note you created. To remove this protection will be as simple as sliding back on the note and pressing the padlock again. The note will be public again and you can re-store the content in your gallery of the Photos app.
