How do we access keychains from the Mac?
There is no default application to access the passwords that we have stored on the Mac, but it is quite easy to access them. To find it, we can search for it from the Spotlight search engine or from system settings under the name “keychain access” . A window opens automatically with all the stored passwords.
Once we have accessed the keychain, we find all the passwords that we have stored on the Mac. It is important to highlight that the passwords can be found by categories and randomly. Likewise, if we do not find a password, a search engine appears at the top where you can put the password you want to search for, for example “Discord or Gmail”. Found the password, click on it and write the login password to access it.
Safari, the alternative to keychains on Mac
Safari is an alternative to also access the passwords that we have stored on the Mac, being a much faster and easier way to access it. To access the iCloud Keychain, you just have to go to the top of Safari and click on the window that appears next to the apple logo. You can also use its keyboard shortcut, which is “Command + ,” . Immediately afterwards, a new window will open where you have to select the “passwords” window, where you previously have to enter the Mac login password manually.
Once you have accessed the passwords, they all appear encrypted, but if you put the mouse over them, their decryption appears to see it or even copy it to take it to a website. It is important to note that if you have an Apple Watch, you can double-click the button so that the system detects that it is not someone else who wants to access personal information.
Which one do we stay with?
There really is no better or worse method to access, find and edit passwords on the Mac, since both methods are complementary and help to improve the user experience because depending on where you are, you can access the passwords that you have saved in Safari or Access Keychain on your Mac.
At first, it might seem that the fastest method to access passwords could be in Safari, because you usually have to remember a password when you are on the internet. However, if you don’t have this tab open, you have to open it, making it much quicker to have Mac Keychain access in the Dock. It is important to note that if you do a password change on the website, you need to update the password in iCloud Keychain, otherwise you may experience problems when trying to access the password.
