How to download Epic Games Launcher for PC for free

Epic Games is behind some of the biggest video game hits of recent times, like Fortnite. But it also has many other titles and the Epic Games Launcher application allows us to play them directly from the PC but also with access to the Epic Games Store to find many other free games or paid games that we can have installed on our PC.

The Epic Games launcher was necessary to play Fortnite and currently includes a button to access the store where we can find more options for both PC and Mac, in addition to managing or playing the ones you buy. In the next paragraphs ter we tell more if you want to know how it is, how to download or how it works.

What is Epic Games Launcher

Epic Games Launcher is Epic Games’ game launcher, as its name suggests . A program that we can download to the computer to manage the company’s entire library of games. Similar to others like Steam or Origin but specialized. It is not intended for downloading games but rather for managing the ones we already have, accessing our library and the different games.

We can buy or download Epic Games titles, manage them from the launcher, install them, play all the downloaded games from the computer. As explained from the developer’s own page, we can “have updates, new features” or we can also access exclusive offers.

How to download

To download the Epic Games Launcher we must do it from the computer, from the official Epic Games page. From here we will see a screen that indicates “download the launcher to start playing the most amazing games” and a button that will allow us to download it in Windows, as well as a small message below if we want to download it for a computer with macOS .

Download the file to your computer and start the installation by clicking on “ next ”. It will start the installation process with a status bar that will show us how much is left until it is complete. Once finished, an Epic Launcher bar will appear showing us that all components are installed.

When the process is complete, the Epic Games Launcher will open automatically. We will only have to log in. We cannot use it if we have not previously created an account with Epic Games or if we sign in with Facebook, Google, Xbox Live, PlayStation Network, Nintendo account, Steam or Apple.

We will have to create an account with our email or use any of the previous methods and we will have already entered our profile in Epic Games Launcher from where you can access the entire library of games, news, your profile, your list of wishes, your cart… As we will see in the next sections.

How to use Epic Games Launcher

We can use the Epic Games Launcher just like any other similar launcher you’ve already tried, such as Origin. Once we have created an account with our email or you have logged in, you can access the store to see all the games available. Download the one you want, free or paid. As you can see in the image below, within each of the games we will see a series of videos and screenshots, a description and a button that allows us to buy or “get” if it has no cost. When we accept the terms and conditions we can place the order . If you are going to use only free games you will not have to use any payment method in the Epic Games Launcher at any time.

When we already have the games we want, we can go to the “ library ” by tapping on the corresponding button on the launcher. The first time we are going to play one of the titles in the library, we must choose the installation location, as you can see in the screenshot below. When you have it, you can start it.

We can play the title on our computer at that time, loading it directly from the Epic Games Launcher. Or switch to another when needed, from your own library of previously downloaded or purchased games.

Available titles and filters in the library

There are many games available if you have Epic Games Launcher. Both free titles and paid titles that we will have to buy. We can filter or access different sections such as Square Enix offers or sales but we can also use other filters to find titles : games and titles by price, we can choose between the different categories or genre, by features, by type or by platform or operating system …

For example, among the genres to find games by category or genre we find: action, adventure, indie, role-playing, strategy, open world, shooting, puzzle, first person, narrative, simulation, casual, turn-based, exploration, horror, platforms, socialization, survival, questions and answers, city building, stealth, fighting, comedy, action and adventure, racing, roguelite, cards, sports, dungeons… but we can also choose or filter by features : achievements, single player, controller compatible , multiplayer, cooperative, competitive or virtual reality… In addition, there are other types among which we can filter according to what we are looking for: games, game bundles, editors, game add-ons, game demos or applications. Having all these filters we can easily find what we need to download and play it.
