How to create a ringtone on mobile with a song

If we have distinguished ourselves from our peers throughout history for anything, it is by the way we express ourselves. And nothing better than creating our own custom audio to use as a ringtone on our phone.

Surely you already knew that you can do it, but you have never stopped to think how you can use your favorite songs as ringtones and assign each sound to a series of specific contacts, whether they are your friends, your partner, your family or even your boss.

Don’t worry, that’s what we’re here for. Next, we tell you everything you have to do to use the themes of your favorite group, or the trending song, as the default sound of your phone.

Set a song as ringtone

On Android, everything is very simple. To be able to use a song as a ringtone for our mobile, we only have to store the desired file in the Ringtones or Ringtones folder, although you can really set any audio, even if it is in another folder. Google’s operating system, when it comes to customizing the sounds of the smartphone, makes things very, very easy for us.

The bad thing about this system is that, by default, the mobile will play the audio from the beginning of the song and then cut it off in the middle of its execution. To create a custom ringtone , the best we can do is first select it, then cut it, and finally apply it. And it is done as follows:

Download the song to your mobile

As you may know, downloading songs from the internet is illegal unless they are royalty free. That is why we assume that the music you are going to use is purchased by you and you simply want to cut it down, to use it as a mobile melody.

The best and easiest thing you can do is upload that specific song that you have stored on your computer to your Google Drive account. To, from the mobile, access that same Google cloud and download the music to store it in the Downloads or Ringtones folder of the mobile .

If you don’t have any songs on your computer and what you want is to download MP3s from the Internet, there are many sites from which you can legally store all kinds of music on your device. These are some of the best known:

If you want, you can even download the video from a YouTube video (of a royalty-free clip) to set it as a ringtone on your smartphone. For this you can use the YouTube to Mp3 tool. Simply enter the URL of the video in question and the sound will be downloaded to your phone’s storage.

Use the correct format

Please note that our Android smartphones do not work with all audio formats equally. In general, when creating our custom ringtones we will work with MP3, m4a, WAV and OGG formats . Therefore, if you can download the music in MP3, you will save this step.

You simply have to open the app, grant permission to the storage space, select the song that you have previously downloaded and choose the output format. Lastly, save the resulting audio to the same Ringtones folder we talked about earlier.

Select the song file you want to edit
Choose the section you want to use as sound, moving the sliders to trim the audio
Click on the Play button at the bottom to preview how your edited song looks
You can use the ‘+’ and ‘-‘ buttons to fine-tune the selection
When you’re done, tap the save icon at the top
Set a name for the created file. It is important to remember it because it is the one that you will have to locate in the next step
If you had skipped the previous step, now you can also select its format (MP3, WAV, Flac, Ogg), its bit rate and volume;
Once generated, the tone will be saved in the folder of the application itself

Set your new ringtone

MP3 Cutter app makes the whole process simple as it also allows you to set the song you have created as your phone ringtone, alarm tone, notification after editing it.

However, if you want, you can do it later from the terminal settings.

On many Android phones, you can directly choose the audio file you’ve created , regardless of the folder it resides in, as follows:

Go to the Settings app
Select the Sound and vibration menu
Click on Ringtone
Select the Custom or Ringtone menu from Internal Storage
Look for the tone that we have generated in the previous step and choose it

However, this is a method that, although it works on most devices that use the Google operating system, can be more complicated to carry out depending on the customization layer you have.

If you cannot change it, you will have to move the tone that we have previously created to the Ringtones or Ringtones folder that we talked about before, using a file manager.

Open your file manager
Go to the internal storage menu
Enter the folder with the name of MP3 Cutter (or the app you used to cut the audio)
Select the audio you have created
Click on Move (or cut, or copy)
Go back and find the Ringtones folder
Inside, click again on ‘Move here’ or on the ‘paste’ command

Ready, then you must follow the previous route (Settings, Sound and vibration and entering Ringtone) to find your personalized song. Click on the desired audio to set it as default.

As we have said before, you also have the possibility to apply this new tone to contacts individually. Doing it is somewhat more complex, since you must do it from the information stored in the smartphone agenda:

Open the Phone app
Tap Contacts
Select the contact you want
Click on Details or the small ‘i’ that appears on the screen
Select Edit or Set Ringtone
Click on Ringtone
Next, choose the created melody
Click on Done

All this long process helps us to personalize our own songs with the aim of establishing them as the phone’s melody . The thing is that this is a job that many applications can already do instead of ourselves.

In the Android application store there are many apps with all kinds of music, effects and soundtracks that, simply by entering the name of the theme in your browser, allow us to find different versions of it to download and apply them as a ringtone or tone of notification.

The bad thing about these systems is that, in general, they don’t have all the songs in the world and finding a specific audio, especially if it’s from a little-known singer, is going to cost more than normal. Despite this, it never hurts to download them and try to find your favorite theme in them before carrying out the previous process.
