When we refer to the current Internet browsers that we use today on a daily basis, we talk about a series of programs that do not stop gaining importance. Much of this is due to the enormous use we make of them at the moment, as with Chrome , Firefox, Opera or Edge.
This is something that its developers are fully aware of, hence the efforts they put into making their products as functional as possible. But this is not all, but there are other factors that at the same time influence these specific applications. And it is that at the same time the creators of these applications have to look at many aspects such as the security and privacy that their projects provide. In the same way, along with functionality and security, the interface or appearance of the program is also taken into account.
In fact, along these same lines we are going to focus on the security of one of the most used proposals of this type around the world. In particular we refer to the option of Mozilla with its Firefox. First of all we will tell you that this is an interesting proposal that we can choose in this regard. Keep in mind that Firefox is one of the most used web browsers around the globe. You could say that right now it is only surpassed by Google Chrome. and the new Microsoft Edge.
Mozilla prioritizes security above all else in Firefox
As surely many of you already know, this is a free web browser whose main advantage over some of its rivals is that it respects privacy. In fact, it is one of the most important premises that its developers take into account, the security and privacy of users above all else. But that’s not all, but also try to consume few computer resources , so there are many who opt for this proposal rather than Chrome, for example.
In fact, in these same lines we want to talk about an interesting function integrated in the program itself that focuses on all this that we are commenting on. We must bear in mind that the programs we are talking about here are the ones that give us access to the vast world of the Internet . Here we carry out all kinds of tasks, both related to work and leisure. We play games, we visit all kinds of informative websites, we work in the cloud, we visit social networks or we check the bank’s movements.
For many of these tasks we need certain credentials and private accesses that the browser itself must take care of. In fact, in Firefox we have the possibility to see first-hand and in seconds, for example, all the trackers that the program has blocked in recent times. At the same time it has a good amount of additional and customizable functions related to the security and privacy of the applications. A good part of the options we refer to are found in the main menu of Firefox.
How to access the Firefox Protection Panel
To do this, the first thing we do is click on the button that is represented by three horizontal lines that is located in the upper right corner. After that, in the list of entries that appears on the screen, we choose Options , and in the window that appears here, we go to Privacy & security. It is here where we can establish and configure everything related to this that we comment on.
But this is not what we want to talk about in these lines, but about the Protection Panel . To access it, we click on the button mentioned above, but in this case, instead of Options, we opted for the entry called Protection Panel.
The first thing that we are going to find in this particular section is, as we mentioned before, the trackers that Firefox itself has blocked lately. As we can see first-hand in the window that appears, these can be counted in the hundreds of thousands, or even millions in recent months.
Of course, we must bear in mind that this data will only appear if we have the Enhanced Tracking Protection option activated. We will find it in the privacy and security section that we discussed previously
How the Search for Data Breaks option helps us in Firefox
But this is not all that we will find in the Firefox Protection Panel. In this same window, if we move a little lower, we find another section called Search for data leaks. As you can imagine, this will be very helpful when the program warns us if our passwords are in danger. This is something that can occur if in any of the platforms where we registered in the past, there has been a data leak. This is something that happens more regularly than we would like.
In order to benefit from all this, we only have to subscribe to the service offered by the browser itself. Therefore, to activate it, what we do is click on the button Subscribe to leak alerts. Next, we enter our access credentials to the Firefox account, and that’s it.
From that moment, in the event that any of our passwords is leaked on the Internet or there is suspicion of it, Firefox will notify us from here. On the other hand, from this same window of the Protection Panel, we have the possibility to change those filtered passwords directly from the program. For this we just have to click on the Manage passwords button that is a little further down.
Thus, in order to increase the security of our data, it is advisable to activate this functionality proposed by the Mozilla program and thus take care of our personal passwords at all times.
