How to clear Google history on mobile

How to clear Google history on mobile

If you are a user of the Google operating system, you will already know that it is essential to use a company account to be able to use most of the smartphone’s functions. You need it to download applications, to pay with your mobile, to use Assistant, to make backup copies…

The Internet giant is omnipresent on your mobile and this means that the brand knows more about us than we would like. Every time you do something, the company records it in its different records (because yes, there is not just one, but several) and stores it waiting for you to delete it.

If you want to make sure that your search history, location history and even what you talk about is not visible to anyone, we show you how to delete it in every possible way.

The different types of records

Many of us tend to think that Google only stores browsing data. Nothing is further from reality. From the moment we enter a company account on the smartphone to be able to download applications (and do much more), the firm begins to record almost everything we do with the device.

  • Browsing history: All the web pages we visit are stored here, as well as the files downloaded from these websites and our access information.
  • Location history: The manufacturer records, through its Maps application, all the places we have passed as long as we carry the smartphone with us or a wearable device synchronized with the terminal.
  • Voice history: When you talk to the smartphone, whether it’s to ask something to the assistant or to search through Chrome, those voice commands are also saved and associated with our company account.
  • YouTube history: YouTube is an application that belongs to the Internet giant and, as such, it also stores all your searches within the app and the videos that you have consulted.

Delete everything Google knows about you

You have already seen that the company knows too much about what you do, search for and like, but it also depends on you that the Internet giant stops ‘spying’ on you. This is how you can delete all the histories associated with your activity with the smartphone.

Clear browsing history

It doesn’t matter if you use the browser or the Google search bar that appears on the main screen of most smartphones on the market. If what you want is for the Internet giant to stop knowing what you are doing, you will have to access the browsing history from Chrome to delete it. It is done this way:

  1. Open the Chrome app
  2. Click on the 3-dot icon in the upper right corner
  3. Select the History menu
  4. Click on Clear browsing data
  5. Select the time period and choose the one you want
  6. Select the files associated with the history
  7. At the bottom, tap Delete

By doing so, you will end all the web sites that you have visited in the marked period, direct access to those web pages will be eliminated and suggestions about them will not be shown when typing on the search field of the search engine, forgive the redundancy.

Clear location history

You have already seen that the company not only knows where you navigate , but also where you walk, what places you visit, and where in the world you are at every hour. Of course, this is a huge intrusion on users’ privacy, but luckily, it’s something you can also override by doing this:

  1. Open the Google app on your mobile
  2. Click on your profile icon, top right
  3. Click where it says ‘Google Account’
  4. Go to Privacy and personalization
  5. Scroll down to the History Settings section
  6. Go to Location History
  7. Select Deactivate

If you wish, and you want to avoid confusing routes, there is another way to deactivate this data recording that Google carries out on our activity . Simply, you must access the link that we leave you just below these lines to get to the same place. Sign in with your Gmail account credentials and turn off location history.

Clear voice recording history

Every time you talk to Google Assistant or use the voice searches offered by your mobile, a digital ‘fingerprint’ associated with your big G account is being left. In this case, finding the options to deactivate them are found in the same place as in the previous case.

  1. Open the Google app on your mobile
  2. Click on your profile icon, top right
  3. Click where it says ‘Google Account’
  4. Go to Privacy and personalization
  5. Scroll down to the History Settings section
  6. Enter Activity on the Web and Apps
  7. Select Deactivate
  8. Remember to uncheck the box next to ‘Include voice and audio activity’

If you want to do it without having to waste time navigating through the settings and configuration of your Android mobile, there is a more direct way to do it. Click on the link that we leave below and, on the screen that your browser will open, select Deactivate all Activity on the Web and applications , remembering to check the option to Include voice and audio activity.

Clear YouTube history

Lastly, we have your YouTube search history . The application not only stores the videos you watch, but all the content you search for in the multimedia application. In the same way that we have done previously, we can delete this information from the mobile. Do it like this:

  1. Open the Google app on your mobile
  2. Click on your profile icon, top right
  3. Click where it says ‘Google Account’
  4. Go to Privacy and personalization
  5. Scroll down to the History Settings section
  6. Go to YouTube History
  7. Select Deactivate
  8. Remember to uncheck the box next to ‘Include voice and audio activity’

As we have done with location services, Google makes a web page available to users that, directly, allows us to disable YouTube history. Do it from the following link:

Delete all activity in one click

As you will see, the company knows a lot, too much about you . If you’re fed up and want to end this tracking once and for all and end all records, you can radically do so from the My Activity page.

When you enter it you will find yourself, when you log in with your Gmail credentials, with the possibility of ending all your search history in a massive way in all the manufacturer’s services.

From this website, tap the three-line menu in the top left corner and select ‘Delete activity by’. Now simply choose ‘Forever’ if you want to wipe out all the browsing data the company has on you.

Stop Google from tracking you

If you don’t want to have to repeat these steps every two to three, you have the possibility to disable Google’s data history from the same routes that we have provided previously. Instead of selecting the option to Clear history, you just have to deactivate it by clicking on the corresponding button.

Another option is to make use of the automatic deletion function offered by the brand, which is perfect for keeping some of our information for a certain period of time. For this useful tool you must follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Google Activity page and log in with your firm account
  2. Click the Web & App Activity / Location History / YouTube History section
  3. At the bottom, click the Automatic removal if it’s off section
  4. Choose the period of activity data you want to delete, then click the Next button
  5. Google will show you a message where the selected contents of that period will be shown
  6. If you agree, click Confirm to continue
