In Discord we can choose the name we want when we register but also change the name or nickname in Discord whenever you want depending on the room you are going to enter or the use you are going to give it. We explain how to do it from the website or through the mobile app.
Discord is a Voice over IP or VOIP application . An application that works through the voice over Internet protocol system and that allows us to communicate with other users without the need to use a mobile phone and with many options. We can talk to whoever we want, have conversations or rooms in which to talk about common themes or interests. Servers with channels where we can choose whether they are open chats or private groups … And we can create study groups on Discord, reading clubs, rooms with our family. Although it was originally designed for video games, Discord is today a very comfortable and useful tool.
When we register in Discord we choose a username that is what other users or participants in the chat will see when we are inside it. But we can also change it once we have already created the account. We can modify it as many times as we want or as we need, whatever the reason. You simply have to choose a nickname and follow the steps below.
Create an account on Discord
We can choose the name on Discord by creating a new account. When you have already downloaded the application on your computer or phone or directly from the web version without having to leave the browser. The steps are very simple.
To create an account you will have to fill in
- Username
- Password
- Date of Birth
- Accept the terms of service
Once you fill in everything, tap on “ Continue ”. We will receive an email notification and a link that allows us to validate the account and start using it. We will have chosen a user but, as we will see in the next few paragraphs, we can change the Discord name.
Change the name or nickname
If we have already created an account or we already have one but we don’t like the name we have , we can change it by accessing its settings without having to create another one. We can do it from the application or from the web version.
From the web page or desktop
If we want to change the Discord username from the website or from the application for computers, the desktop version of the program, the steps are as follows:
- We open the program or the web page on our computer
- We look for the gear icon at the bottom of the page
- We will enter the Discord settings
- Go to the menu on the left of the screen
- In “User settings” we look for the “My account” section
Here we will enter a section where we can change our profile picture, our username, our email, our phone number… As you can see in the image, we will be able to see all the settings along with an “Edit” button that allows us to modify all the details. In our case, we must touch “ Edit ” next to the username button and a new window will open here.
You will see a new window in Discord that tells us “Enter a new username and your existing password” You will have to fill in the data with the new name and you will have to confirm the process with the key that you use for Discord. We will also see that there is a set of numbers on the right side. A series of numbers preceded by a label and whose “mission” is to differentiate ourselves from other users on the platform in case there are two people with the same name or nickname. We cannot change the set of numbers or identifier if we have a free account, but you can modify it if you have a paid Discord account.
Once you have completed the entire process to change it, confirm on “Done”. Automatically your name in Discord will change and you will be able to identify yourself with the new one.
Switch from mobile phone
If you have the Discord application on your mobile phone, we can change it from the settings without having to go to the website or without having to download the desktop app. We simply have to download the app for the smartphone and log in with our email and password.
Within the application we have to go to the lower right corner of the screen to touch our profile image and the user settings will open. Here we will see a list with options such as setting status, my account, privacy and security, authorized applications, connections… And the second is the one that interests us. We have to tap on “My account” to open the settings and to change the name in Discord or the user nickname that we have in the program.
Once we have entered the settings of our account we will see a series of options and menus similar to those on the web page: profile picture, username, email linked to the account, telephone, change password and in the At the bottom we can enable or disable two-factor authentication.
The one that interests us, as is logical, is the first. We touch on “Username” from the Discord application and we can choose our username. As in the previous case, we can choose our new name and to the right the label will appear with the corresponding code that will differentiate us in case another user has the same name as us and we want to distinguish ourselves from each other when using Discord.
Once we’ve done that, we’ll see our new name and it will appear changed on Discord for all users.
change the label
