Google continues to launch new mid-range mobiles with many of the characteristics that define it so well, such as good photographic behavior or the possibility of working with the purest version of Android that we can test on a phone today.
The phone was presented in society on August 26 and includes IP67 water resistance, a powerful battery, the impressive Pixel dual camera system and much more but, unfortunately, again it is a mobile that we can only buy imported because it is not will sell in the Spanish Google store.
Features of the Pixel 5a 5G
The Pixel 5a is a moderate improvement over last year’s Pixel 4a 5G, offering a larger battery, a slightly larger screen, and water resistance. It supports 5G, but not the faster 5G mmWave networks and has the same mid-range Qualcomm processor as last year. As always, Google’s phone excels at creating a smooth and fast software experience even on lower-powered processors, which is why one from last year was used.
Design and display
For the first time in history within the A-series of Pixel devices, the brand adds IP67 water and dust resistance, which means that you can get it dirty and that it withstands full immersion at 1 meter for 30 minutes.
As for the screen, it is a borderless OLED panel that leaves a space in the upper left corner to accommodate the front camera in a small hole made in the glass. It has a size of 6.34 inches, somewhat smaller than most phones on the market, and Full HD + resolution.
It ends up in a density of 413 dpi and a 20: 9 display format. The fingerprint reader is behind and weighs 183 grams, being one of the lightest models on the market.
Processor
The same processor that we saw last year in the Pixel 5 is the one that we are going to find in this particular model. It is a mid-range CPU, the Snapdragon 765G manufactured in 7 nm with 8 Kryo cores at 2.4 GHz that allows to lower the price of the mobile and continue to offer 5G connectivity.
This chipset is accompanied by AI tools and the now famous Titan M chip, intended only for the protection of data and user privacy. It offers smooth performance and good power management and is fit for Android 12, but it may look a bit outdated over time with newer Android apps. Keep in mind that the mobile was launched in 2021 and the processor is already a year old.
The 5G modem integrated in the processing gives the possibility to download up to 70 songs in seconds, take advantage of the maximum performance of Stadia Stadia and play without them at maximum speed or make use of Duo Screen Sharing in HD, where all the members of your call they can watch the same video, watch live sports together, and make plans as if you are actually in the same room.
Memory
The manufacturer’s mobile phone comes to the market with 6 GB of RAM while in terms of storage we have a single 128 GB version. Without space for a MicroSD, we can always host our files in the services offered by the Pixel, such as Google Drive and Google Photos.
Camera
The camera configuration continues to bet on maintaining two camera sensors. At the front is the famous 12.2 MP sensor with F / 1.7 aperture that boasts an OIS to keep 4K videos perfectly stabilized. What’s more, we can record slow motion clips with it up to 240 fps.
The high-performance dual camera system is accompanied by a wide-angle lens that captures a huge field of view with 16 MP resolution and f / 2.0 aperture. It has modes like Portrait Light that helps you get the light right on one side, and Cinematic Pan that keeps your video steady and smooth. Using Night Sight with astrophotography, you can easily capture everything from city lights to the moon and stars.
The Google Pixel 5 maintains the portrait mode, Night Shift, HDR panoramic mode, and the different tools for scene recognition or object identification provided by the terminal’s AI.
As for the front camera, also endowed with AI tools, it has an 8 MP sensor and f / 2.0 aperture and offers 1080p recording at 30 fps.
Battery
Although the smartphone is smaller than its competition, it sports a 4680 mAh cell with features such as fast charging and adaptive battery, with which the phone will be ready all day, especially when you need it most. With Extreme Battery Saver, it can last even longer – up to 48 hours on a single charge.
At the moment we do not have specific data on the autonomy of the smartphone but it should exceed the day of use without problems.
Connections
Both to charge the device and to transfer the data to the computer, a USB Type C port is shared, while to unlock the phone we can use the physical fingerprint sensor that is on the back cover. There is also a 3.5mm minijack for headphones.
Regarding wireless connectivity, in addition to being compatible with 5G networks, the Google Pixel 5a can connect to Wi-Fi networks a / b / g / n / ac, it has Bluetooth 5.0 and GPS, NFC and compatibility with Dual SIM (Nano SIM + eSIM)
Price
The price of the mobile is set at 449 euros and can be purchased in black or green with 6 + 128 GB.
Purchase gives you three months of YouTube Premium, Google Play Pass, and Google One. And if you buy a Pixel 5a with 5G from the Google Store in the US, you get a three-month trial of unlimited talk and text at Google Fi. Of course, they are advantages that, like the mobile, we will never have.
