Google Chrome Shows Suggested Purchases in New Tabs

If there is something that we cannot deny, it is that Google’s main business model is advertising. Hence, our data, tastes and interests are so valuable to the company. Thanks to personalized advertising, Google can show us ads on topics that interest us, increasing the probability of clicking through them and, therefore, generating more revenue for the company. However, now this advertising is going to go up a new level after Google is thinking about going further and starting to recommend us to buy products directly from the new tabs of your Chrome browser .

Google Chrome is Google’s official web browser and is therefore your gateway to us. Although it is the most used web browser, it is obviously the one that collects the most data from all types of users, and it is a very fast way to send all kinds of information that is interesting to Google to its users.

Google Chrome Shows Suggested Purchases

With the intention of going one step further, Google has begun to experiment with a new shopping box that will appear in the new Chrome tab. This box will always show us all kinds of objects and elements, related to our searches, to try to go through the checkout and buy it. A function that will undoubtedly give a lot to talk about.

Ads hit the new Chrome tab

Although at the moment everything is in an experimental phase, the Canary branch of Chrome has received this new feature. From now on (as long as we have it activated), when we open a new tab within the browser we will be able to see a table, like the one below, that will give us recommendations of objects to buy.

Nueva pestaña con publicidad de Google These recommendations are based on our tastes and interests , and Google knows more about them than we do. It is a box similar to the one that appears in the search engine when we search for certain items, and it uses the Google Shopping engine to display the data.

By clicking on the object we will not make any purchase in any store (for now), but it will take us directly to the search for the object in Google to be able to know more about it, or buy it directly.

An experiment you can try

If we are using the Canary version of Google Chrome, right now we will be able to test this new feature. Of course, we must bear in mind that it is in an experimental phase, and that it still does not work with our personal data , but, when activated, it shows a “template”.

To start the function, what we must do is activate two experimental features , flags, in the browser. These are:

  • chrome: // flags / # ntp-modules -> Enabled
  • chrome: // flags / # ntp-shopping-tasks-module -> Enabled – Fake Data

We restart the browser and that’s it. When we open a new tab we will be able to see this new feature working on our PC.

Chrome: an increasingly ad-centric browser

There is more and more advertising in Chrome, unfortunately. And it is that this shopping box is not the only advertising element that has reached the new browser tab. We can also find other elements within the new tab used by Google to show all kinds of ads, such as the small banner in the central part used to show recommendations that, obviously, has been designed thinking that companies can advertise directly on it.

It is true that, for now, Google does not charge or receive commissions for sales, since these ads do not lead to any particular store. However, it is more than clear that Google’s goal, sooner or later, will be to get the most out of this function.

If you are looking for the same functions and features as Chrome, but without depending so much on Google, it is still time to give the new Edge a try .
