Gaming Chair Gas Lift Classes: Check Capacity, Fit and Replacement

Updated 19 October 2026.

The gas lift in a gaming or office chair adjusts the seat height. A class label can help identify the component, but it does not establish a universal weight limit for the complete chair. Check the chair manufacturer’s rated capacity and replacement requirements together.

What a gas-lift class does and does not tell you

Manufacturers commonly list a class alongside the gas lift, while separately specifying the chair’s maximum load and applicable testing information. Those are different pieces of information. The cylinder is only one part of an assembly that also includes the base, seat mechanism, frame and fasteners.

For example, Sharkoon describes a class-4 gas lift and a load rating of up to 110 kg for its OfficePal C10. Its OfficePal C50 specifications list that model’s components and testing separately. Use the exact product specification rather than applying a generic “class 4 always means 150 kg” table.

Information What to verify
Gas-lift class The specified component and any stated test standard.
Chair capacity The complete chair’s documented maximum user weight.
Height range Whether the assembled seat reaches a suitable working height.
Replacement fit Mounting dimensions, stroke, actuator and model compatibility.
Certification claim Which product or component was tested and to which named standard.

Check the complete chair’s capacity

A stronger-looking replacement cylinder cannot raise the published capacity of the rest of the chair. Use the manufacturer’s complete-chair rating and any stated user-size guidance. Avoid treating a marketplace description, a cylinder’s class or an unsupported class 1-to-5 chart as certification of the assembled product.

When comparing chairs, also check seat dimensions, armrests and adjustment range. A suitable load rating does not guarantee a comfortable desk setup. Our monitor-adjustment guide explains how screen height and position fit into the wider workstation arrangement.

Choose a compatible replacement, not just a higher class

Find the chair’s model and revision, then ask its manufacturer or an authorized parts supplier for the correct gas lift. Compatibility includes more than outer appearance: the assembled height, stroke, mounting geometry and release mechanism must work together.

Keep the purchase record and check warranty support before disassembly. If the cylinder sinks, the cause could involve the gas lift, the control mechanism or the assembled chair. Describe the symptom rather than assuming that every height problem needs the same part.

Follow the manufacturer’s service procedure

A gas lift is a pressurized component. Do not open, drill, heat or attempt to refill it. Use the documented replacement procedure and seek qualified help when the maker requires it or the assembly will not separate normally. Do not improvise with methods that can damage the base or release mechanism.

After an approved replacement, follow the assembly checks in the chair manual and verify normal adjustment before regular use. If the chair still drops, wobbles or shows damaged structural parts, stop using it and contact support.

Frequently asked questions

Does class 4 always mean the chair supports 150 kg?

No. The complete chair has its own manufacturer rating. A component class is not a universal capacity guarantee.

Can any office-chair cylinder fit any gaming chair?

No. Match the model’s mounting arrangement, dimensions, height range and operating mechanism. Ask for an approved replacement.

Can a stronger gas lift increase my chair’s weight limit?

It does not re-rate the base, seat, frame or fasteners. Follow the original complete-chair rating unless the manufacturer explicitly documents otherwise.

Can I repair a leaking cylinder myself?

Do not open or refill a pressurized lift. Use manufacturer support or a suitable replacement procedure.
