Every day we write many messages, emails and texts. Although all of them fulfill their function of communicating with each other, sometimes we commit misspellings that make it difficult to read and thus understand its meaning.
Today we are going to see what tools Google Chrome offers to solve this problem both natively and through extensions. In addition, for specific questions, we will offer you some very useful dictionaries.

Activate the Google Chrome checker
To start solving our problems with misspellings we have to start the spell checker that is installed by default in the Google browser. The option appears in the configuration menu.

Once in configuration, we select Advanced configuration, between On startup and Extensions.

And from the menu that opens we choose the first option: “languages”

The menu that appears includes two options. On the one hand, we have the basic Chrome spell checker that will correct our spelling mistakes using the resources included in the browser.

If we want a more effective correction, we can activate the option ” improved spell checker “. Thanks to this utility, Google will activate the spell checker that it uses for its searches and the work of the browser will give a better result. However, our texts will always be sent to Google, so our privacy may be affected.

Whether we choose the basic or the improved option, Chrome allows us to customize the spell checker. You can see it at the end of the previous menu.

Through this possibility, we can enter those words that either because they are technicalities, loans from other languages or for other reasons do not appear in Google resources. In addition, Google will offer us a list of those saved words so that we can read, modify or delete them.

Once we add the new words to the checker, we may make a mistake again and need to delete them. It is very simple, just select the cross in the right column.

One step further, extensions
Now that we have the Google Chrome spelling checker installed, be it basic or advanced, we may need a more detailed correction or search for the meaning of certain words. For those needs that our browser does not cover, we are going to offer you four free extensions that you can download from the Chrome Web Store
Microsoft editor, the most complete option
The Microsoft Assistant will not only review our spelling but also pay attention to grammar and punctuation. Once activated, it will review the texts that we write on any website, be it Gmail, Facebook or LinkedIn. In addition, it allows you to change the language if we write texts in other languages since it checks spelling in more than 80 and offers its advanced utilities in more than 20 languages.
To enjoy its basic functions, either in Chrome or Edge -where it is also available-, we need a Microsoft account. For Microsoft 365 subscribers, this extension offers a more advanced version that fixes style errors. You can install the extension by clicking below.
LanguageTool, the global option without registration
If you do not have a Microsoft account or are not interested in using that company’s application, you have the LanguageTool extension at your disposal to correct all those spelling errors that you do not want to appear in your texts.
It is a very easy extension to install since it does not require registration. Its use is simple since by pressing a button or with a keyboard command, the tool is in charge of checking the spelling and grammar of the selected text. In addition, you can use it on practically any website, such as Twitter and Gmail.
It has support for more than 25 languages, among which are English, Spanish, French and German, among others. Also pay attention to the differences between the variants of the same language, which is very useful to avoid mistakes among the speakers of the same language.
Like the native Chrome option, LanguageTool allows you to customize the dictionary and include expressions or your own words that do not appear in a conventional dictionary, but that we use frequently.
If you are interested in an extension that offers a good result and looks after your privacy, download it by visiting the link.
Dictionaries, those useful allies
There are times when we do not require a correction of our entire text, but simply remember the accentuation or the meaning of a specific word. To help you in these everyday situations where we need a quick and precise answer, we bring you several extensions related to dictionaries.
Spelling, grammar and dictionary, a complete help
Cubiwan offers the free version of its extension in the Google Chrome web store. It is very useful since it looks in the RAE dictionary but also in Wikipedia or in Wiktionary. It also finds antonyms and synonyms and can conjugate verbs to help us with those accents that we sometimes forget.
If we wanted more help with gender and number errors, with prefixes and suffixes, or with cardinal, ordinal, and Roman numbers, we would have to purchase the paid version. Then we leave the link to the free version for you to try their services.
The RAE dictionary in one click
“Clean, fix and give splendor” is the motto of the Royal Academy of Language, the institution that since 1713 records the words in the Dictionary of the Language . A long time has passed since then and we are still without an official Google Chrome extension. This gap has been filled by programmers like Copete whose extension is very simple and easy to use. Just select the word, press the right button and select “RAE Dictionary” in the menu that appears. Next, a floating window will offer us all the meanings that appear in the dictionary.
Improve your Chrome browser with this simple extension
The synonym, a similar option
When what you need is not the definition of a word, but another word whose meaning is similar, we recommend using this extension that contains more than 200,000 antonyms and synonyms in Spanish.
Its use is as simple as that of the previous extension, just install it, select the word and press the right button. Then we will only have to select “synonym” in the menu that will appear.
Expand and improve your vocabulary with Synonym.
