How to Fix Bluetooth Problems in Windows

The use of wireless technology by Bluetooth is increasingly widespread and used in computers. Thanks to it we can share information with nearby devices. For example, it can be very useful for transferring files or connecting them to wireless headphones for greater comfort, all without the need to connect any cables. But sometimes problems can arise with the Bluetooth of our computer which can cause the occasional headache, so today we are going to take the necessary steps to fix it.

The use of Bluetooth has become a clear alternative for many users to transfer files thanks to its speed, security and compatibility. This technology allows us to transfer data and voice between different devices through a radio frequency link that operates in the 2.4 GHz ISM band. But not everything is perfect in Bluetooth, since, like all technology, it is not exempt from producing failures in our Windows 10 computer. Today we are going to see how we can solve the connectivity problems of our Bluetooth.

Basic Bluetooth checks

The first thing we must do is carry out a series of basic checks, which, although obvious, often solve the most common problems that we can have with Bluetooth without having to go directly to the most drastic measures.

The first thing should be to verify that we indeed have Bluetooth on . For this we are going to press the keyboard shortcut Windows + I, through which the Configuration menu will appear. Once here we will go to the “Devices” section. From here we can activate and deactivate Bluetooth. If the tab is blue it is on, otherwise it is off.

Activando Bluetooth desde Configuración

If the Bluetooth is blue, we can try turning it off and on again, as this can solve some connection problems that may have arisen.

Nor should we forget to review the state of the battery of the device to which we are going to connect our computer via Bluetooth, since it is likely that we have not even realized that it has been left without power, so it is always important to check it first hand.

Finally, we are going to restart our computer . This process will clean all inactive processes, as well as memory leaks that can result in the correction of some hardware problems, so it never hurts to check it.

Delete and add device

Sometimes the problem with Bluetooth can be solved by deleting the paired device and pairing it again. For this we will press we must access the Configuration through the shortcut Windows + I, and here in Devices. Now we will select the paired device and click on “Remove device” and then “Yes” to confirm. In this way we will remove the device from our computer, being unlinked.

Quitar dispositivo Bluetooth

Next, we proceed to restart our computer and we will return to the Bluetooth configuration section and click on the “Add Bluetooth or another device” section that we find at the top. Now we will select that we want to add a “Bluetooth” and the computer will start searching for the device. Once found, we reconnect it.

Finally, we must verify that the distance with the device is correct. The Bluetooth connection is a wireless connection using radio waves, so any interference can affect the connection. Other radio signals, walls or some electrical appliances like the microwave can cause our Bluetooth connection to be lost. The greater the distance between the devices, the weaker the signal, so it is important to verify that they are close.

Take advantage of Windows 10 troubleshooter

If we continue to have problems with Bluetooth, we can choose to use the “Windows 10 Troubleshooter” to see if it can solve the problem. For this, it will be in charge of checking the status of the Bluetooth and its configuration to detect any problem and will indicate how we can solve it.

To start it, press the Windows + I shortcut again to access the Configuration menu. Here we click on “Update and security”, later on “Solve problems” and we will click on “Bluetooth”. Finally, click on “Run the troubleshooter”.

Update the Bluetooth drivers

If none of the above has worked we can choose to check if the Bluetooth drivers are correctly updated. For this, we must consult the website of the manufacturer of the device if it has new drivers for our equipment. If so, we will have to download and install them to solve the problem.

It can also happen that a recent Windows update has affected our device and needs updated drivers. Windows will usually automatically check for and install updated drivers. If not, we should visit the device manufacturer’s website to install the latest drivers.

To check if your Bluetooth device is correctly installed we must verify it in the “Device Manager” of Windows. To do this, we must type in the search bar “Managed devices” and select it. Here we will see if it recognizes our Bluetooth device, otherwise it would appear in the “Other devices” category.

Ejecutar administrador de dispositivos

Now we click on Bluetooth with the right button and select “Update driver”. If we want to search for the drivers automatically, we select “Search automatically for updated driver software”. If we download the drivers we will use the option “Search for driver software on the computer” and follow the instructions on the screen. Once the process is finished, we restart the computer and check that the Bluetooth device works correctly.
