The 2020 27-inch iMac may well have been Apple‘s last computer with Intel chips. It is expected that already this year the first devices with ARM chips will be launched, which are called Apple Silicon at the moment. Precisely in the last few hours we have learned new data on the launch of these teams, with the return of a range of MacBook that has been much missed in recent years.
12-inch MacBook with A14X chip

As we said before, the first Mac with chips developed by Apple will arrive at the end of this year. In previous weeks we learned that laptops were the ones with the best chance of being the first, highlighting the ‘Air’ and ‘Pro’ ranges. However, we do not know if they will finally be these or they will be launched together with the 12-inch MacBook, but the latter seems to be the main protagonist of the latest leaks.
TSMC, who are already the main manufacturers of the iPhone and iPad processors, will also be in charge of supplying the chips for the computers. From The China Times newspaper they have reported in the last hours a very remarkable information about the A14X chip , which would not only be a version of the A14 of the iPhone 12 dedicated to the iPad Pro, but it would also be the processor of the aforementioned small MacBook.
This computer is known at the moment by the code name “Tonga”, it is known that it will weigh less than 1 kg and that it will have USB-C. It is also said that it will have a range of 15 to 20 hours that will be optimized precisely by the A14X chip. We will have to wait until it is launched or information is filtered to know the performance, but for the moment it indicates that very good results will be obtained from this chip thanks to its 12 cores , including 8 high-performance ones. This latest information was released by Bloomberg several weeks ago.

Redesigned iMac concept
In the same report from The China Times, information about the iMac with Apple Silicon processor has been released. This is known as “Lifuka” by its code name. Its release date is in the second half of 2021 , so it could still be a year to see it.
We suppose that this equipment will come with a redesign that will serve as a facelift for a computer model that has not recycled its visual appearance for more than a decade. Inside we could find GPUs developed by Apple , as well as the processor. According to sources close to the production chain, development is proceeding smoothly thanks to TSMC’s 5nm processing. In performance it would bring a considerable improvement per watt and a greater computing performance, thanks to lazy rendering technology that will allow application developers to create much more powerful software.
We will continue to wait to learn more information about these teams. The expectation is high and many analysts, experts and ordinary users eagerly await performance comparisons with the Intel components that are still present in the Apple Mac catalog today.
