Firefox 85 Will Remove the Adobe Flash Player Plugin Permanently

Adobe Flash Player has been a very important complement in the evolution of the Internet. Standards, and websites are as we know them, in part, thanks to him. However, for several years now, this add-on has not brought anything to the Internet, just vulnerabilities. For this reason, browsers have long planned to turn their backs on this add-on. And we already know who will be the first to do it: Firefox .

On December 31, 2020 , that is, in less than a month and a half, Flash will go to a better day. From January 1, 2021, Adobe will stop providing all kinds of support (no maintenance or security or anything) to its plugin. Any flaw or vulnerability that is discovered for said web component will remain in it forever, putting users at risk.

Firefox 85 Will Remove the Adobe Flash Player

Microsoft has already started removing Flash from Windows 10 along with all its components, starting with the control panel. And web browsers, such as Chrome, apart from blocking Flash content by default , are already beginning to warn users of what is going to happen as of January 2021.

Now, Mozilla has gone one step further, and has finally confirmed to us which will be the last version to bring this add-on: Firefox 84.

Firefox 85 will come without Flash, and it will be impossible to install it

A few hours ago, Mozilla updated the information page about the end of support for Flash Player, informing users that, after years of preparing the disappearance of the plug-in, they finally know when it will become a reality. Thus, Mozilla has confirmed that the last version of the browser to be compatible with this content will be Firefox 84 .

With the release of Firefox 85, the Flash plug-in will disappear from the browser. It will not be possible to enable or install it. It will be impossible to open any Flash content in the browser. Mozilla reminds us that, even if we change the browser, we will still not be able to load this content on the websites, since in a very short time all browsers will also eliminate support for this add-on.

The next Firefox 85 is scheduled for January 26, 2021 . From then on, Flash will have permanently disappeared from Mozilla’s web browser. And so Firefox users will gain in security and performance.

What about Google Chrome?

Of course, Google Chrome is also going to completely remove this plugin. However, we still do not know if it will do so for version 88 of the browser, which will arrive at the end of December of this year, or will leave it for version 89, which will arrive throughout the month of January 2021.

What is certain is that the Google browser is beginning to show a banner to all users informing that the end of Flash Player support is imminent. And it allows us to completely disable the plugin to see how, indeed, we are not going to have any problems.

Most of the websites that used Flash back in the day have already made the leap to HTML5 . And if any of them still use Flash today, it is because it hides something; it is better to avoid it.
