Microsoft continues to improve Edge, its new browser. Despite using Google’s Chromium engine, the company is constantly adding new functions and features to the browser with which it tries to gradually gain users and become an alternative series to its rival, Chrome. One of the aspects in which Microsoft is investing the most efforts is in the PDF viewer of this browser. And, with Edge’s new Dev or Canary branches, this viewer has gotten an exciting new addition: the ability to take notes.
Microsoft not only wants Edge to be the default browser for Windows 10, but it also wants to cover other grounds, such as being the default PDF viewer for the operating system. All browsers today can open PDF documents, but the truth is that none do it like the new Edge.
Microsoft has included a large number of functions and features in its browser to make it easier for users to open these types of documents. For example, we can see a table of contents of the document, view two pages at the same time, fill and sign documents, read it, add annotations, underline and much more. Now, Microsoft has added a new function to the browser that will allow us to add comments to any part of the document.
Edge PDF Comments, a step forward to be the best viewer
Of course, Edge is becoming the best free PDF viewer that we can install on our computer. Thanks to him we will be able to forget about Adobe Reader, Sumatra, Foxit and any other program.
This new commenting feature is now available in the latest browser builds within the Dev and Canary branches. At the moment, for the Beta and Stable it is not available, although they could arrive with version 88 of the browser.
Using this function is very simple. All we have to do is open any PDF document with the browser, and select the part of the document where we want to add the comment. For example, a text. We right click on said selection and we will see a new option to add comment.
By selecting it, we can see how a post-it appears in which we can write. So we can easily add the annotation we want within the document.
When we do, the commented part of the document will appear in yellow, as underlined. If we place the mouse over it we can see the comment that we have added.
When we no longer want to see the comment, we can delete it by clicking on the trash icon that appears next to it.
Other changes in Edge 88
In addition to this novelty, Microsoft has taken advantage of the launch of the new Edge 88 (Dev or Canary) to bring other improvements to users. For example, as we have seen in recent weeks, now we can find coupons when we go to buy online, a function to prevent favorites from being duplicated, a “Web Capture” function to take screenshots of complete websites without extensions and improvements to web pinning, policies and IE mode.
