Contrary to long-held beliefs, crushes and romantic movie scenarios are mere works of fiction. This is especially true when it comes to seeking a partner on Tinder. Despite common assumptions, the quest for a partner on this app is far more demanding and time-consuming than anticipated, often extending over several months.
A recent investigation conducted by Worten in collaboration with the specialized telecommunications and technology platform ‘Aporta un tíco’ has unveiled intriguing insights about the average duration it takes individuals to discover a meaningful connection on Tinder. The findings are astonishing, managing to defy even our own expectations. The study not only sheds light on the timeframe required to locate a compatible partner but also challenges the prevailing notions surrounding the user base and potential users of the app.

Finding a partner on Tinder is not easy
This comprehensive investigation was conducted over a span of 12 months and encompassed the interactions of 300,000 Tinder users. Their conversations and connections with various matches were meticulously scrutinized. The results indicate that 42% of Spaniards employ their smartphones to seek romantic relationships, utilizing a plethora of available apps, with Tinder reigning as the most prominent contender.

This study delved into the intricacies of user engagement, analyzing the median number of messages exchanged from registration to departure on the app. In tandem with message volume, the average duration was also examined. According to Worten’s findings, the journey from solo to serious commitment on Tinder takes approximately 254 days and entails sending 268 messages. This equates to around 9 months for the initiation of a substantial relationship, though individual experiences may vary.
The study further scrutinized the gender divide in the pursuit of a partner. Notably, women tend to require a shorter duration to establish a stable connection. Women invest 232 days on average to find love, in contrast to men’s 276 days. This trend is mirrored in the message count as well, with men dispatching an average of 321 messages compared to women’s 224 in their quest for romance. It’s important to acknowledge that, at times, men tend to be more exuberant in their approach to flirtation.
The app gains acceptance among the public
Undoubtedly, this study has inherently contributed to the evolution of the app’s popularity within the public sphere. Not too long ago, mentioning Tinder evoked thoughts of a platform exclusively catering to casual romances. However, the current perspective has undergone a transformation, evident in the diverse age groups embracing and engaging with the app.

In the past, it was primarily the younger demographic that embraced this app, reflecting the norms of that time. Yet, this perception has experienced a significant shift, especially among older individuals. Impressively, 64% of those classified as Generation Z (between 18 and 25 years old) either utilize or have engaged with this app. This influence isn’t limited to just one generation; 47% of millennials actively employ Tinder for romantic interactions. The most remarkable surge, however, has occurred within the 40 to 51 age bracket, where a notable 43% express an inclination towards utilizing Tinder.
