Final Cut Pro X Update: What’s New for August 2020

Talking about video editing programs on Mac is talking about Final Cut Pro X, Apple’s official software offered to professionals in this sector. The Californian company tends to launch important updates with some frequency and although the last one is not the most revolutionary, it does incorporate some interesting news that all those who are familiar with this program should know. We tell you about them below.

What’s new in Final Cut Pro 10.4.9

If you are already a user of this video editing application, update 10.4.9 has already been available for free on the Mac App Store since yesterday  . If you are not a user of it and you want to download it you will have to pay  329.99 euros . The main novelties that we can find on this occasion are the following.

Proxy contents

As Apple understands that users are accessing to edit remotely more and more, they have added improvements in work processes with proxy content, so that the libraries accessed can be more portable and the process of performing the Remote task with large files can be done in a much more agile way. It is possible in this way to create proxy content in ProRes Proxy or H.264 on really small scales, such as how to bundle proxy media content on an external or network drive.

Improvements for sharing on social networks

Social networks are a fundamental element in our lives in the middle of 2020, so Final Cut Pro also takes this into account and has added improvements such as intelligent clip detection to share more easily on our networks. This is done through Smart Conform, which converts the video into horizontal, vertical or another format that adapts to platforms such as Instagram, Twitter or Snapchat.

Greater fluidity and improvements in work processes

Significant workflow improvements have been added with new ProRes RAW camera settings such as ISO, color temperature, or exposure shift, which now appear in the inspector. In addition, audio fades can be added to adjacent clips in a single step, as well as being able to use a new contextual menu with which to close a project, erase the history, or sort clips and projects based on the last modified date. Performance improvements are also added thanks to RED RAW compliant plug-ins, Canon Cinema RAW Light. Even transcoding 9K RED RAW videos to ProRes 422 has been improved making it twice as fast on computers like the Mac Pr and up to three times faster on the MacBook Pro.

Motion and Compressor are also updated

Final Cut Pro X

Motion now offers in version 5.4.6 a new range of possibilities that will allow you to create visually incredible effects and graphics, as well as allowing you to import 3D models from third parties and even choose them from an integrated library in USDZ format that can be used for titles, generators, effects and transitions. It also includes a new Stroke filter, a tool that automatically outlines an object or text using its alpha channel.

Compressor 4.4.7 adds an update that includes custom LUT effects with the ability to use the camera’s LUTs to convert record-encoded content to SDR or HDR. It also improves the overall performance of processes. It should be noted that both this and the previous one will have a price of  54.99 euros for new users.
