Apple has been exploring the area of AR (Augmented Reality) for several years now and in fact, it could be said that it is, at least for now, that of the big technology manufacturers, who is in the lead. Mark Gurman, a reputed Apple analyst who works for Bloomberg, has assured in recent hours that the firm led by Tim Cook is trying to implement Augmented Reality technology to content on its streaming platform. According to this, the initial plans were planned for the end of this 2020, however the COVID-19 pandemic would have postponed this launch to 2021.
Although Gurman also warns of the possibility that the project is completely discarded, today the company intends to add additional content in series and movies that serve as an extra to the plot that is being watched. Something like it can be a trailer or director’s comments that accompany many films. For this, an iPhone or iPad would be needed, which we suspect would be the models with LiDAR sensors, although they will probably also extend it to other recent devices although they do not have such specific technology.
An example is the series For All Humanity (For All Makind in English), which has the space travel of astronauts as the central axis of its plot. Well, with the new AR functions we could have a spaceship made to scale in our own living room, which would also serve to make the experience of enjoying the series more immersive.
If this finally ends up coming, it will be very interesting and although it is not going to be essential, it will serve as an important differential point for Apple TV + compared to its more direct rivals.
