Falcon as New Captain America: How Marvel Says Goodbye to Chris Evans

A stage closes within the Marvel Cinematic Universe and this is what your responsible company wants to show us. After the end of Falcon and the Winter Soldier we have a new character in charge of giving life to Captain America and although the shadow of Chris Evans is long, Marvel Studios plans to do everything on their part so that we soon forget about him with gestures such as the one we show you today. Sorry, Cap.

Spoiler warning: this article talks about the season finale of Falcon and the Winter Soldier . Read at your own risk.

Falcon as New Captain America

Falcon is no longer Falcon

The end of the second series of Marvel Studios and Disney + , Falcon and the Winter Soldier , has left us some other important moment that will have continuity and relevance in the future of the events of the UCM: we have discovered, for example, that Sharon Carter, such and as we suspected, it is a new town (neither more nor less than the Agent of Power); checked that there is Baron Zemo for a while (good!); And, most important of all, we’ve seen the rise of a new Captain America.

Although John Walker has tried with all his desire, in the end the character has stayed halfway and will have to settle for being a US Agent -another way more than sure that Marvel will explore in the future-, so that Cap’s shield He was once again free and with a clear objective: that once and for all Sam Wilson accept his destiny and agree to carry it and become the new Captain America.

Falcon y el Soldado de invierno - Sam

The process has cost its own (six long chapters) but finally Falcon has stopped being it to become a new version of the mythical character, now with wings, new armor and being a black man who gives him life -as what that implies.

Sam, the new Captain America

As we said, Falcon and the Winter Soldier has served, among other things, to enjoy Sam Wilson’s transition to his new destination. After rejecting and denying the legacy left by his partner, Steve Rogers , starring Chris Evans -below these lines-, in Avengers: Endgame , good old Sam (played by actor Anthony Mackie) has accepted that he has to be the new Captain America and has not hesitated to dress up for it.

In the last episode we see him dressed in his new armor (a hybrid between his old identity and the new one) and proclaiming himself as the new one in charge of giving life to this hero so loved by all. But, of course, this change has a significant risk for the franchise: We are so used to Evans that imagining anyone else playing his role costs a lot.

To try to help the transition and that we get used to the idea, Marvel has decided to replace all the images it had of Chris Evans as Captain America on its Twitter and Facebook social networks with new ones of Anthony Mackie in this new role. Below you have one of the banners that has been replaced and the new image:

This could make you think that the rumors about a return of Chris Evans to the MCU are definitely false, however, as indicated in The Direct , in the comics Marvel made Steve Rogers return with Sam Wilson as Captain America, so the idea still not so far fetched. Of course, it will have to spend a reasonable time for it and that nostalgia does not take over us.
