The Factory Tests that a Mobile Passes before Going on Sale

Before reaching our hands, smartphones have to pass a series of resistance tests. We are not talking about the extreme tests carried out by some media or youtubers and that we see frequently on our site. We refer to those internal ones carried out by the manufacturer itself , to guarantee that everything will go well before putting the mobile in stores.

Smartphones go through various tests before they get the final “OK” and end up in the retail box. These tests are a standard across all manufacturers, and ensure that all hardware components are working properly. If not, it is more than likely that the buttons, the screen or the temperature changes will generate more errors and problems than we usually find.

The tests that mobile phones pass

Depending on the type of smartphone we are talking about, it can be subjected to more or less tests . For example, a smartphone with IP resistance must be tested in environments of water and dust, unlike another that is not. We have another example in the new folding mobiles, which also pass special tests, specifically the folding of the flexible OLED panel or the resistance of the hinge, if present. But apart from specific tests of some models, all pass a series of standard tests to guarantee the correct functioning of many elements. These tests are carried out by the manufacturers’ own internal laboratories, although they can also be carried out by third parties.

These tests are carried out by machines specialized in these functions, which test tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of times the same function , as a measure of stress and wear. This number of tests is carried out based on average values, taking into account the useful life of the device and the number of times the user can use said elements during that time. However, the numbers in terms of number of tests far exceeds the estimated use of the owner, in order to have a more than reassuring margin.

The standard tests that cannot be missed

As we say, these tests can not be missing in any smartphone, and it is in which thousands of repetitions are carried out before giving the OK to the correct functionality.

  • Repeated on and off test of the device: it is done to ensure that the mechanism works well after many uses
  • Repeated wake-up test after mobile inactivity: your goal is to check that the mobile sleep mode works normally
  • On / off button: repeated push tests
  • Volume Button: Repeated Press Tests
  • USB insert durability: charging cable insert simulation
  • Headphone insert durability: headphone jack testing with insert repeats
  • Durability of fingerprint clicks: security testing, efficiently and quickly
  • Touchscreen Click Durability – Touchscreen stress test with hundreds of thousands of touches
  • Intense pressure: support strong pressure on the screen
  • Intense static pressure: about 70 kilos of pressure on the device
  • Sudden changes in temperature: they are subjected to variable temperatures between -40º and 70º C
  • Long-term high levels of temperature and humidity: subject to temperatures of up to 55º and humidity of 95%
  • Long-term temperature cycles: subjected to temperatures between -20º and -55º C
