DJI Air 2S: Features, Available Versions and Price

DJI now officially has a new drone, it is the DJI Air 2S and it is not a simple upgrade to the Mavic Air. This new proposal fuses elements and ideas from different ranges with the intention of offering one of what we could say is one of the best drones on the market .

DJI Air 2S, compact and lightweight design

DJI Air 2S: Features
The new DJI Air 2S is one of those drones that if you are not very into the whole rhythm of launches by the Chinese manufacturer, you would say that it is one more, one of the many offered by the brand. Because physically it reminds us of what we have been seeing with proposals like the Mavic Air.

With a gray body again, its foldable arms are what attracts the most attention. Because thanks to that the drone facilitates everything that has to do with transport and stored in a backpack or bag. Because it occupies very little, it weighs only 595 grams and you are not afraid that your arms or propellers may suffer any damage when it is with other gadgets.

Otherwise it is true that it is similar to models already seen, there are differences in terms of the number of sensors and their locations, but little else. Although that similarity is not bad, but quite the opposite, because they continue with that idea of offering a very versatile product that you are not lazy to carry when you go on a trip and you think that there could be times when you would like to obtain an aerial capture in static video or images.

And nothing to say if it is for professional use. Because while it is true that for anyone who needs high performance, there is the DJI Inspire as the main recommended option. For many other photographers and videographers, this will be the drone that will give them the highest image quality, as we will see later.

Therefore, in the images above you can see all the details of the DJI Air 2S from different points of view. Now let’s move on and talk about the technical part.

When flying a drone becomes easy

Technically the DJI Air 2S is one of the most capable and interesting devices of all those that make up the DJI drone catalog. This on the one hand is obvious, because it is the latest launched by the brand. But also because it has been designed to meet the needs of those users and professionals who not only want a small and easy-to-fly product, but also one with enough quality to perform a large part of the work that a drone may require. Of course, first, let’s talk about the flight.

Along with all those smart modes that are already a classic by DJI and that allow things like taking quick shots following predefined trajectories, object tracking mode, etc., we also have the APAS 4.0 autopilot system .

This new system plus the combined use of the different sensors that are distributed around the body of the drone allows it to avoid obstacles autonomously. This for inexperienced pilots is incredible, but even for experts as well. Because they can “forget” a little more about the flight and focus on capturing the image they are looking for.

In addition, as an accident prevention mechanism, it also offers the Aírense and GEO 2.0 system . The first is responsible for warning of the possible presence of other aircraft such as airplanes and helicopters. And the second helps to avoid crossing areas restricted to flight or sensitive for whatever reason.

Logically these two systems do not mean that you can fly by drone in the rest of the airspace. As always, it will be necessary to check which are the current laws of each country regarding the flight with unmanned aircraft. This avoids possible problems with the authorities.

1-inch sensor for 20 MP photos and 5.4K video

There is no doubt that one of the main attractions of this DJI Air 2S is its video and photo quality . The new drone makes use of a 1-inch sensor. That is, a considerable increase in the captor that will allow to obtain better results in all types of scenarios and both in photo and video.

Thanks to the use of this new one-inch sensor and 20 MP resolution and together with a lens with a focal length of 22mm and an aperture f2.8, they will allow the new DJI Air 2S to capture still images with a maximum resolution of 20 MP. and high dynamic range. In terms of video, the maximum resolution it can reach is 5.4 K at 30 fps . If you prefer to shoot at 4K resolution, then you can achieve a rate of 60 photographers per second.

Logically, in addition to the RAW format in photography , when capturing video you can choose a normal video clip, D-Log (flat profile with a 10-bit color depth) and HLG mode (also 10-bit video, but ready to share).

That video material that is stored on a micro SD card that is inserted into the drone itself can also be shared through the applications available for iOS and Android. These apps are also the ones that allow you to access, configure and control the drone together with the remote that equipped with OcuSync technology allows an unrivaled range and optimal control precision.

Remember that due to European and American regulations, the scope of OcuSync, even though it is theoretically 12 kilometers maximum, in European territory is reduced. But you still have enough margin to get to the point you want to capture without losing sight of the device.
