Debian 10.8, News and Download of the New Version of Linux

Debian 10.8, News and Download

Debian is one of the most widely used Linux distributions, albeit indirectly. Most of the popular distros, such as Ubuntu or SteamOS, use it as a base. But if we want to enjoy the performance and stability characteristic of this system to the maximum, it is necessary to install a pure Debian on the PC, not other distros based on it. And also always keep it to the latest version, like the new Debian 10.8 that has just appeared on the net.

Version 10 of this distribution saw the light of day in the summer of 2019. Since then, the community has been developing and introducing changes to this system to improve its operation and correct errors. And although this summer we should be able to see the next Debian 11 already , before that we will have to go through 10.8, the new version that has just seen the light of day.

Changes and New in Debian 10.8

Obviously, this version is not going to represent a radical change from what we already know. This new version 10.8 is a new maintenance version focused on correcting errors detected in the distro. This can include specific patches to solve problems or new versions of the different packages that make up the system.

This new Debian 10.8 brings with it dozens of updated packages compared to the previous version 10.7 released in December 2020. Among others, some of the most relevant are:

  • Firefox ESR
  • Chromium
  • Flatpak
  • VLC
  • OpenSSL
  • APT
  • Thunderbird

The Linux kernel has also been updated to a newer version to ensure the best possible performance, as well as other essential elements of the system, such as the X.Org server. The NVIDIA drivers have also received a new version in this Debian update that fixes several bugs that caused denial of service, DoS. And finally, other errors detected within the distro itself have also been corrected.

Update Linux

If we already have Debian installed on the PC, we can update to the new version 10.8 of this Linux by executing this simple command:

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade

With this command, all users who are still using any previous version, such as 10.6 or 10.7, will be able to jump directly to version 10.8. Data will not be erased or programs and settings changed during the process. In a few minutes we will have our PC ready to work 100% again.

If we still don’t have Debian on our computer, we can download the ISO of this latest version from its website .

Debian 11 just around the corner

The community has been working on the development of Debian 11 “Bullseye” for some time. If all goes well, this new version is scheduled to see the light of day in the first half of 2021, although surely everything points towards summer. This will be a major update of the operating system, and it will bring great changes and news to continue growing and evolving.

However, for now, unless we opt for the “testing” branch of Debian, the most unstable version of continuous development, we can only install 10 of this Linux on the PC.
