Customizing Windows is one of the things we usually do as soon as we install the operating system. Changing the background, theme, colors and placing the icons is the basics when giving a personal touch to our computer. In addition, dark themes, or modes, have grown in popularity in recent years. These change light colors, such as white, for other darker colors (black and gray) to relax our eyes when we spend a lot of time sitting in front of the computer. Windows, Linux, and macOS have their own dark modes, as do Android and iOS. However, Windows is probably the worst of all.
Renewed and improved dark mode in Windows 10
Windows 10 dark mode has been one of the most anticipated features by users. However, although it has been available for quite some time, the truth is that the implementation in the operating system in this way leaves a lot to be desired. Especially compared to other operating systems such as macOS. It seems that Microsoft implemented this new color theme quickly and badly, not respecting the color palettes and leaving elements, such as the search engine, without darkening. However, with each Windows 10 update this dark mode only gets better. And the next big operating system update will finally bring us something up to scratch.
Although it was not included in the list of changes of the build 20211 of Windows 10 21H1 , the latest Insider update of the operating system brought with it changes in the dark theme of the operating system. These changes are specially designed to maintain a certain coherence with all the elements of the system and that there are no parts of it that have a different theme.
One of the elements that has received this improvement has been the search box. When we click on this box to start looking for whatever, it can display a dark-themed skin, or a light-themed one. It will depend on the color settings of Windows 10. However, regardless of the theme we have, the search will come out with white tones, which breaks with the aesthetics of Windows dark mode.
We don’t know why this decision was not made from the beginning, but it seems that at least it has. Microsoft may introduce these changes at the last minute in Windows 10 20H2 , the 2009 version of Windows, or we may have to wait until 21H1 to finally have this dark theme in place.
Other aesthetic changes that we can see in Windows 10
In addition to improving the dark mode, and taking it to the parts of the operating system where they are missing, Microsoft is also preparing other minor cosmetic changes with which to renew the appearance of the operating system a little more. One of the aesthetic novelties that we could see very soon are the new rounded corners for the windows and the Live Tiles, definitely saying goodbye to all the square corners of the operating system windows.
Little by little, WinUI is gaining prominence throughout the operating system, although there is still a lot of work ahead. It is very likely that as new versions of Windows 10 21H1 are released we will see some minor aesthetic changes that, little by little, will shape the Windows desktop until everything is in accordance with the WinUI parameters. Thus, the entire operating system will function as a single piece of software.
