Microsoft Introduces ColorPicker: a Color Grabber for PowerToys

The functionality of an operating system such as Windows 10 by default is beyond doubt, but users are always going to ask for more. Technology evolves, and equipment also, so software cannot be left behind. For this we have, for example, Microsoft‘s own PowerToys, a project that does not stop growing and evolving.

As most of you may already know, when we talk about PowerToys , we are referring to a series of tools that became very famous years ago. Now those of Redmond have wanted to resuscitate them to complement Windows 10, something they do not stop working on. In fact, the 0.20 version of them is falling. Here what we are going to find with a series of fixes and improvements, in addition to a new application that arrives.

Microsoft Introduces ColorPicker

And is that since these PowerToys were resurrected for Windows 10, Microsoft has been working on new versions with fixes and new tools. However, lately he has focused more on fixing things than on launching new projects, until now. We tell you all this because with the aforementioned PowerToys version 0.20, we found an interesting novelty. Not only are there bug fixes and enhancements, as is customary, but there is also a new tool to test, the ColorPicker .

PowerToys are updated with a new tool

Of course, we must take into account that at this moment the 0.20 version of the PowerToys is not yet available, although there is not much left for them to see the light. From Microsoft itself it is commented that if everything goes according to plan, the new version will be released at the end of the month, that is, in just a few days. It is worth mentioning that the new ColorPicker functionality is initially described as basic. But at the same time it is also possible that over time more functions will be added to it.

ColorPicker

To give us an idea of what awaits us, this is a new tool that is activated with a keyboard shortcut that will be customizable. Thus, once in operation, a color picker follows the mouse cursor and displays the actual color below it. Thus we will have the opportunity to open a window with a zoom to improve precision in the selection of colors.

What the ColorPicker application of the PowerToys offers us

On the other hand, when you click with the left mouse button, that color will be copied to the clipboard in a previously predefined format from the configuration. At the same time you have to know that this is a function that also works with multiple monitors . In the same way, respect the limits of the same and always remain in sight if we have it active.

In short, we could say that in a few days we will find a simple and fast color picker for the entire operating system . In this way, ColorPicker allows us to choose colors from any application that is currently running on Windows. After that, we can copy the specific hue , that is, its HEX or RGB values, to the clipboard for later use where we need it. Thus, we will have this tool and the rest of the integrated ones after downloading and installing PowerToys on the PC.
