You do not have to delve too deeply into MIUI 12 to know that Xiaomi’s customization layer is inspired by iOS 14 in several sections. This has been the case since its presentation, but with the new updates it is implemented even more. The last change that we have been able to know is the one that modifies the style of multitasking to go from being vertical to adapting to horizontal style as it is already in Android 11 as well.
However, this option to modify multitasking in Xiaomi is not yet available worldwide and for all users, to use it we will have to perform a few simple steps to obtain it. As on other occasions we have seen, the alpha versions of the MIUI launcher let us test the news before the rest. However, we must know before proceeding with its installation, we want you to know that it could contain bugs because it is not yet a final version.
Activate horizontal multitasking in MIUI 12
Although at first this option was released stating that it is valid for both MIUI 11 and MIUI 12, we have been able to verify that in MIUI 11 it apparently does not work yet. In the case of MIUI 12, yes, although for this we will have to have one of the Xiaomi phones of mid-range or higher, this is where the problems of having the good or bad version of MIUI that we explained previously appear again.
To test the horizontal multitasking of MIUI on our mobile, what we will have to do is follow the following steps:
- We start by downloading the APK of the latest launcher from here .
- Then we access the native file manager of Xiaomi and touch on the APKs.
- We touch on it and install it.
- To make sure that the changes are effective we close the multitasking completely.
How to use horizontal multitasking
Once we have completed the previous steps, without our model supports this function, we will only have to access Settings> Home Screen> Arrange items in Recents. As it is an option in testing it has not yet been translated, but it will be very easy to use. Once inside we will see the two possible designs, choosing between vertical or horizontal multitasking on our Xiaomi mobile.
