The Apple ID is something like the identity card of Apple users. This serves to have access to the most basic Apple services such as the App Store but also for others such as Apple TV + or Apple Arcade. It also serves from iOS 13 to log in securely on many websites and apps, but also to be able to synchronize all Apple devices. So its importance is very high and therefore in this post we show you the basics to change your Apple ID data.
Change Apple ID email
As a general rule, Apple IDs are registered with an email account. You might have created an exclusive account with domains such as “@ icloud.com”, “@ mac.com”, “@ me.com” or used an existing Gmail account, Outlook or any other service. Be that as it may, this email can be changed to another one without affecting our Apple ID.
But before proceeding with any changes you must log out of your Apple ID on all devices where you are logged in. If you are going to use one of those devices to make the change, you can keep the session open on that computer.
Now you must follow the following steps:
- Open the Apple ID website.
- Enter your access credentials, which will be precisely your current Apple ID and password.
- Click on “Edit” the Account section in the upper right.
- You will see your current Apple ID and the “Change Apple ID” option, which you must press.
- Enter your new email or phone account with which you want to access your Apple ID.
You will have noticed that there is a possibility that a phone number serves as an Apple ID . This is possible since 2017 but for this you must have an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch with iOS 11 or later , a Mac with macOS High Sierra or later, an Apple Watch with watchOS 4 or later and / or an Apple TV with tvOS 11 or later
If your new Apple ID is an email associated with Apple, you will see that a notice appears informing you that your new account cannot be exchanged in the future for a non-Apple account. If on the contrary you have added an account of an external service, you will receive an email in that account to confirm the change.
Once all this has been done, you will only have to click on “Accept” in the upper right and the Apple ID change will already be effective.
Change Apple ID from iPhone, iPad or iPod touch
If you want to change your Apple ID from any of these devices you should know that, as with the other method, you must log out of all your associated devices except on the computer with which you are going to make the change. To do this you will need the iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to have a software version that is iOS 10.3 or later.
The steps to follow are those:
- Open the Settings and click on your name.
- Click on “Name, telephone numbers, mail”.
- In the part where it says “Localizable in” you will see that the “Edit” button appears, which you must press.
- Remove the Apple ID account you had associated.
- Click now on “Add email or phone” and add one of these to serve as a new Apple ID.
- Finally click on ” Accept” .
Change Apple ID password
One of the fundamental factors of your Apple ID is the password that is used to verify that this account is yours, so it is vital to know it or at least have guarantees that we can remember it if we have pointed it somewhere. If you want to change this password you can do it in two ways.
From the Apple ID website you must follow these steps:
- Sign in with your Apple ID and current password.
- Go now to the Security section and click on “Change password”.
- Enter your current password and enter your new password to confirm it in the box below.
- Finally click on “Change password”.
From an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch with iOS 10.3 or later :
- Go to Settings and press on your name.
- Go now to “ Password and security” and then to “Change password”.
- Enter the security code you have on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.
- Type the new password twice to verify that they match.
From a Mac with macOS Catalina or later :
- Go to System Preferences.
- Click on ” Apple ID” in the upper right.
- On the left side click on “Password and security”.
- Click on “Change password” and enter your old and new password.
It is possible that in this last method you will be required the Mac password on some occasion in order to perform the process. If your Mac is older than the macOS Catalina version, you must follow the steps in the Apple ID website to change the password.
