So far, we have few references on the performance of Intel Arc graphics cards. Portable systems with these graphics are very difficult to find in the market, due to limited production. New benchmarks of the Intel Arc A730M and Arc A770M graphics cards against the NVIDIA RTX Mobile have now been published.
The launch of Intel graphics cards has been a real disaster. Lack of drivers, non-existence of stock (practically) and serious doubts about its final performance. We should note that, to date, these are the company’s first real dedicated graphics cards in decades.
How the Intel Arc A730M and A770M perform
Last week we saw the performance data of the Intel Arc A380 , which is exclusive (for now) to the Chinese market. The performance of this graphics card leaves much to be desired, since it is below the AMD RX 6400 and NVIDIA GTX 1650 , the latter with three years on the market. Of course, it seemed very unlikely that a new discrete graphics architecture from Intel could handle AMD and NVIDIA solutions.
It seems that Intel has given some analysts review guidelines for its Arc Alchemist Mobile graphics and Triple A gaming configuration. The Intel Arc A730M and Arc A770M are based on the ACM-G10 silicon. These graphics are positioned as alternatives to the RTX 3050 Ti and RTX 3060 , both versions of laptops.
Intel Arc A730M | Intel Arc A770M | |
---|---|---|
Xe Cores | 24 | 32 |
Frequency | 1100MHz | 1650MHz |
Ray Cores | 24 | 32 |
VRAM | 12GB GDDR6 | 16GB GDDR6 |
TGP | 80 – 120W | 120 – 150W |
As with the NVIDIA RTX 30 Series, the Intel Arc A7 will have several versions of TGP . This means that each laptop manufacturer will be able to customize the characteristics of the graphics card and thus vary performance and temperature.
According to the references, the NVIDIA RTX in 1080p resolution are outperformed by Intel graphics by 48% on average. It should be noted that in Death Stranding and Horizon Zero Dawn the performance of Intel graphics is below NVIDIA.
It should be noted that Intel has not specified the TGP of its graphics cards. They do indicate that the RTX 3050 Ti has a TGP of 60 watts and the RTX 3060 has a TGP of 85 watts. These two TGPs, as we show in the table above, have a higher lower TGP than NVIDIA’s. Also, Intel graphics have more VRAM than their NVIDIA counterparts.
Intel also notes that for maximum performance, ReSizable BAR technology needs to be enabled . It should be noted that in the systems used for the NVIDIA benchmarks, the ReSizable BAR is not active.
Data of doubtful credibility
Being clear and realistic, these Intel benchmarks generate a lot of doubts. Everything indicates that Intel has used all possible tricks to stay ahead of the performance of NVIDIA graphics. Independent analyzes may clearly show us otherwise.
We only have to see the data of the comparison of the Intel Arc A380M with the NVIDIA GTX 1650 and AMD RX 6400. The Intel graphics are quite portrayed and it is shown how the company is very far from its competitors. Those rumors that the Intel Arc would be comparable to the RTX 3070 seem like simple fantasy and pure science fiction.
