One of the coolest things about Android is the way you can replace the stock app launcher with any number of other third-party alternatives. Nova Launcher and Apex Launcher are the most famous pros in the Google app store, there are a good number of these apps ready to change the way you use your smartphone.
There is only one problem (or rather several): this type of application is not always compatible with our mobile or operating system and, even so, nothing frees us from bugs and errors that may arise after making the change. That’s why it doesn’t hurt to know them beforehand.
The most common problems
In general, you should not have any kind of problem installing any launcher that you download from Google Play on your mobile. However, this does not mean that specific failures appear due to the fact that there is not enough space on the device, there is some type of incompatibility between the app and your version of the operating system, or there are network problems.
And, even if you meet all the conditions to install the app on your smartphone, several more errors may still appear. These are the most common:
- Random error messages: With the most famous launchers, such as Nova Launcher or Apex, this is not usually a problem, but with the infinity of applications that we can use as system launchers, it is quite common that when applying it we get error messages that help if something is wrong. On many occasions, it is enough to ignore them and continue using the smartphone normally, but if they do not stop appearing continuously, you have a problem.
- Icons that disappear : The icons are usually synchronized with the launcher with which we work and depending on the one you install, the compatibility of some and others may fail. This does not mean that the applications disappear from the smartphone, but rather that the new launcher is unable to graphically represent the icon that you were using on your previous system.
- The Launcher stops working: Not all Launchers get along with our stock Roms and you may experience issues such as crashing or crashing. Many times it is impossible to detect the reason why this happens and you will have no choice but to return to the original launcher of your mobile to be able to use the smartphone normally.
- Stability and battery problems : Each launcher is different and what works well in one can be a headache in another. When you install a new one, you should wait at least a day to see that this Launcher is completely stable and check if the autonomy worsens or the applications close randomly.
Fix these bugs with the launcher
When any of this happens to you, your phone will try to force close the launcher , which can lead to erratic behavior. A soft reset of the device can help you fix these issues for good. If not, you can always delete the data from it to leave it as new. It is done in the following way:
- Open the Settings app on your phone.
- Find and tap the Applications menu.
- Locate and tap the Launcher or Launcher app.
- Tap the e Storage or Data Usage option.
- Select Clear data and Clear cache.
If you still can’t get it to work well, you can always go back to using your original launcher that was installed by default on your smartphone. You can try to uninstall the launcher app that you have downloaded and it is failing and that’s it, by default the original launcher will appear.
If not, you’ll need to do a factory reset to get the phone back to the state you bought it in, right after you boot it up for the first time. Before you do a factory reset of your phone , you should know that it wipes all the data on the phone. Therefore, make sure to back up all your data before proceeding. Then do the following:
- Open the Settings app on your phone.
- Tap the search bar at the top and search for Reset.
- Look for the backup and reset option and tap on it
- Tap erase all data (factory reset).
- Press the Reset phone button and enter the PIN or pattern to confirm the action.
