We are seeing different information coming, mostly, from NVIDIA and the price reduction of graphics cards. The thing is to know if the graphics cards are actually going down in price. We’ve been looking at the NVIDIA RTX 3080 and RTX 3060, as well as the AMD RX 6900 XT and RX 6700 XT from various builders to see if they’re dropping in price.
That they go down in price is not something so strange, since they have come to be at absurd prices. The important thing, in this case, is to know how the price has evolved to date. We have been surprised that in most cases the price has fallen by half or even less.
They have dropped in price, but how much?
To make the price comparison we have based ourselves on three assemblers. We have chosen the Gigabyte, ASUS and Zotac custom models of the NVIDA RTX 3080 and RTX 3060 . Regarding the AMD RX 6900 XT and RX 6700 XT we have looked at PowerColor, Gigabyte and ASUS . Note that Zotac only assembles NVIDIA graphics and PowerColor only produces AMD graphics.
We want to emphasize that we wanted to compare NVIDIA and AMD graphics cards that have been on the market for a long time. We have not looked at the power, but we have looked for them to be more or less in the same range or at more or less comparable prices. To consult the price history we have used CamelCamelCamel.
We start with the RTX 3080 graphics cards, which are down 40-45% from their all-time high price. The Gigabyte graph stands out, which has reduced its price by almost half. Regarding the RTX 3060 , we see that the difference is between 70-85% price reduction from its historical maximum. In the case of Gigabyte, we see that the price has dropped tremendously.

Let’s now see what has happened with AMD graphics cards. The first is the RX 6900 XT , both of which are less than half the price of a few months ago. Here the price difference in Gigabyte graphics is striking, which is just under 45%. Now we see the RX 6700 XT , which have had an extra cost of between 60-65% , but in the case of the Gigabyte model, the extra cost was 35%, almost half that of other manufacturers.

We clearly see that the prices of graphics cards have fallen quite a bit from their all-time high. Although there are some data that have caught our attention in this regard.
The first thing that is striking is that in the case of NVIDIA graphics , the Gigabyte models were much more expensive than those of the competition. Just the opposite happens in the case of AMD graphics cards , which have always been cheaper than the competition. A rather strange fact that we do not know why it is due.
It is also striking that the RTX 3080 from ASUS and Zotac have always been cheaper than the RTX 6900 XT. Then, we see that the price difference between the RTX 3060 and RX 6700 XT have been quite similar.
Something that catches our attention is that NVIDIA has been attacked for months over the fact that its graphics cards were used for Ethereum mining. What we see is that the RTX 3080, which are very good in terms of power / price, have not suffered as much inflation as the RX 6900 XT. It is at least a curious fact.
In summary, the price of graphics cards has normalized quite a bit in recent months. We may see a little more drop in price after the launch of the NVIDIA RTX 40 Series and AMD RX 7000 Series, though, who knows.
