Start a workout

Starting to train with the Apple Watch Training app is really simple, you just have to carry out the following steps that we detail below.

  1. Open the Train app.
  2. Find the training you want to do at that moment.
  3. If you want to set a goal for that workout, tap the More button next to the name of the workout you want to do. On the contrary, if you do not want to set any goals, to start you just have to touch the training.
  4. Wait for the 3-second countdown, in case you want to skip it, just touch the screen.
  5. Do your training.
  6. In case you want to add another type of training without ending the session, open the Train app again, swipe right and tap the New button.

Track the progress of your activity

In addition to recording all the information of your training for later reference, the Apple Watch screen will also show you what your performance is at each moment of the training. To do this, you just have to raise your wrist and turn the Digital Crown to highlight the metric that interests you the most.

End, pause or lock training

When you want to finish a workout, you just have to slide your finger to the right and tap on the finish button.

The same is the case if you want to pause the workout, swipe to the right and tap the pause button. You can also press the Digital Crown and the side button at the same time to pause your workout. When you want to resume it, you just have to press Resume or press the Digital Crown and the side button at the same time.

When you want to lock the screen to avoid accidental touches, slide your finger to the right and tap the lock button. Later when you want to unlock the screen, turn the Digital Crown.

Change the metrics

If the metrics that the Train app shows when you do your training are not what you want to see, you can easily change them by following these steps:

  1. On your iPhone, open the Apple Watch app.
  2. Tap the My Watch tab, click Training and then View.
  3. Tap Multiple metrics or One metric. In case you select Multiple metrics you can select up to five metrics for each training, for this touch a type of training and then click Edit. Then you can add or remove metrics. In case you select One metric you can turn the Digital Crown to scroll through all the metrics during a workout.

Mark segments in training

During your training you can also mark different sections of it. To do this, follow the following steps.

  1. During training, double-tap the screen.
  2. Wait for the segment summary to appear.

If you later want to see the different segments of your training you have to do the following.

  1. On your iPhone, open the Fitness app.
  2. Touch the Workouts tab.
  3. Tap on the workout and scroll down.

Not your sport? Add him

In case your sport is not available in the list that appears in the Train app, follow the steps below to add it.

  1. On your Apple Watch, open the Train app.
  2. Scroll down and tap Add Workout.
  3. Touch the workout you want. If it doesn’t appear, click on Others and select yours or the one that most closely matches.

Get a reminder from Apple Watch to train

As of watchOS 5 or later, the Apple Watch can detect when you are doing a training session, and if you have not started this activity in the Training app, it will send you a notification to do so. Obviously, this option can be muted. Also, if this happens, the training will not count from the moment you started it on the Apple Watch, but from the moment you started doing the physical activity in question.

In the same way, if you finish the training and forget to finish it on the Apple Watch, it will also detect that you have finished and will send you a notification suggesting that if you have finished your activity, you also finish the training on the Apple Watch.

Do not be disturbed when you are training

Normally when you train, you want to concentrate and avoid any possible distractions that may be around you, therefore, it would be interesting and appropriate for the Apple Watch itself to be in charge of silencing these notifications when you are training. To do this, follow the following steps.

  1. Open the Settings app on Apple Watch.
  2. Tap Do not disturb.
  3. Tap Do not disturb when training.

The moment your training ends, you will receive the notifications again as normal.

Perhaps you have reached the time to train with the right battery on your Apple watch and therefore you want and need the battery consumption during your exercise session to be as low as possible, for this you can activate the energy saving mode when training. To do this, follow the following steps.

  1. On your iPhone, open the Apple Watch app.
  2. Touch the My Watch tab and then touch Training.
  3. Activate or deactivate the energy saving mode depending on your preferences.
